Sounds like the throttle body is going out or just dirty. It has an electronic throttle body that controls the idle. I would remove the air tube that comes from the air cleaner from the throttle body. Prop the throttle blade open, clean it and the throttle body with carb. cleaner, rags, and a toothbrush. If this doesn't take care of it I would replace the throttle body.

It sounds like the over heating problem might be a blown head gasket dose the motor oil have water in it or water have oil in it .and the ac sounds like the clutch on the ac unit is bad i had the same car and it did the same thing and the belt on the ac did not brake the motor just dies

2006 Pontiac Vibe Blower Motor not working

I have a 2004 Vibe that had a similar problem. The blower fan switch uses a circuit board down near the firewall inside the car. Small hands are required but just two screws hold it in.You can get them at Toyota cheaper than GM.

IDLE high when stopped or clutched

The ecm will tell the iac to idle up when it senses the ac is turned on.If the ac compressor doesn`t come on,there is no resistance on the motor, but the motor does not know that,so it idles up.Find out why the ac is doing this,it wouldn`t be low on freon,it would have to be,most likely the ac clutc going bad.Try this, turn ac on and when ac clutch goes off,be ready, and don`t get hurt, tap it lightly with a tool or something, but be carefull!.If it clicks back on,try it again when it stops,to make sure. This will tell you the ac clutch/coil assembley is bad.
