Unfortunately there is no transmission dipstick fitted to the newer model Cavalier autos. Apparently GM figured that the fluid level did not really need checking between major services. Big mistake.

There is a red fill cap on the drivers side on top of the transmission. The only way to check it at home is to jack up the car, making sure it is level, with a jack on each side of the car, and remove a small plug from the SIDE of the transmission (from under the car). It is approx. a 3/8" or a 7/16" size plug. When removed fluid will drain out if the transmission is overfilled. When there is no more fluid coming out, it is at it's proper level. If there is none coming out, then add more fluid until it comes out and levels off.
It will be easier to access if you also remove the left front wheel of the car.
I would NOT recommend doing this at home. It will be much easier and safer to take the car to the local mechanic and get the car up on the hoist where it is accessible and level. That way you can check properly and ensure the fluid is at the correct position with the vehicle in a fully level position.

Some models do not have a dipstick. There is a plug in the back of the tranny that you pull. with the vehicle running in park and the fluid warm, the fluid should be level with the hole. It will drain out if there is to much. The fill is ontop, there is a red plug that is hand screwed in.

How do I check the transmission fluid on my 2009 F-150? Where is the dip stick?

This depends on what trany is in that truck, one has a dip stick tube with a normal dip stick to check the level and then the other trany has no dipstick theres a plug on the side of the trany where the tube would go , the plug need to be removed and to add fluid you would need a pump and small hose to pump it in, also these tranys take a certain type of fluid so check with your local dealer , the wrong fluid will damage the trany, the plug you remove will have a small stick on it to measure the level, when checking the level you dont put plug all the way in only the stick part goes in. here are a few diagram to show you the plug location and the stick to check level. hope this helps, be careful the plug is near exhaust and truck must be at operating temp and truck on level ground to check the level. good luck, hope this helps.johnjohn2_2.pngjohnjohn2_3.pngjohnjohn2_4.png

Transmission dipstick location

the dip stick is located in engine compartment if you stand in front of car with hood open the dip stick is to your left on side of trany, if this car is stick shift and not automatic then theres no dip stick its checked from side of trany by removing a plug and fill until oil runs out a little a lift would be the way to check it, the car must be level
NOTE; some models have a tube with dip stick and some a cap that unscrews on top of trany and when checking fluid you dont screw in just stick in hole to check level when done then screw back in and tighten, heres a diagram to help you find it.c083006.gif

What does it mean when the car drags like the brakes are on after driving for 20 mins and transmission oil leak on driveway

Check trany fluid level , add if low.
To check level - engine on(running) , shift lever in park position . Locate transmission dipstick , check level , depending on temperature of fluid (roughly) , make sure it's within appropriate marks on dipstick.
If leak on trany is excessive , fix it or check level frequently.

Where is transmission fluid located? Where is stick to check?

Transmission fluid is located inside the transmission fluid pan. It is checked and added through the fill tube. The dipstick is located under the hood. You have two dipsticks, one for engine oil and one for transmission fluid. On some models, the dipstick for the transmission fluid may be located under the engine cover in the cab of the van between the driver's and front passenger's seats. If you simply cannot find two dipsticks under the hood, it's under the engine cowl.

NEED TO CHECK TRANNY FLUID? iT'S UNDER THE MANIFOLD

Under the hood there is a dipstick.. Should be labled.. Usually to the right on the oil dipstick..
Check it while its car is running in park..
The trani dipstick messures in pints - not quarts like the oil dpstk..
If trani fluid is needed - it goes in same place as the the trani dpstk.. You will need a funal..
Carefull not to over fill it..

Auto trani - right ?
You add fluid through were the trani dip stick is.. Its called a filler tube..
Need a funal..

Do it while the engine is on & idling in park.. Its best isall is good & warm..

The dipstick mesures in pints - not quarts so be carefull not to over fill.. Do a little at a time..
Overfilling causes damage..

Hope this helps !!
