Won't start but lights on dash work. Replaced battery, terminals and cleaned frame ground.can get it to start by bridging over the solenoid and starter with screw driver.

Hi Kristy Ferrell,

Great beginning! That is an excellent indication... You PROVED the starter... but not the SOLENOID:

Now apply that same battery to the SOLENOID input terminal... (the one coming from the IGNITION SWITCH)...

((real old cars had buttons, pedals... and yes cranks)).

Keeping in mind (you are bypassing ALL safety contacts (like "neutral safety switch")

~~ Caution
(speaking from (a intelligence challenged) experience)

If you have it in REVERSE... expect a wild ride... Especially if you are resting your shoulders on the gas pedal... upside-down... playing with the neutral safety switch... 50+ years ago.

My mentor (master mechanic) only thought it was funny because I missed hitting anything in HIS parking lot.

(or disconnect the coil PRIMARY)...

If the battery to the SOLENOID turns over the starter...
you are going back into the IGNITION CIRCUIT.

AUTOZONE has complete schematics for SOME vehicles.

If you are serious about this site... your vehicle model & year can produce some great (specific... possibly productive) suggestions.

Hope some of this helps! Good luck.

2003 yukon will not turn over. When I turn the key all the dash lights come on. It started doing this about 6 months ago. It would usually start after 2 or 3 tries or if i put in nuetral and let roll a few...

It could be the starter has a dead spot, the battery voltage is weak, the ignition switch itself, the antitheft passkey or the neutral safety switch..it could also be a bad brake switch. The shift /start interlock is connected to the brake switch...
troubleshooting..... 1) put a test light on the small wire on the starter and see if it lights when attempting to start.if it has 12v or the test light is bright,,but will not crank, tap the starter gently with a plastic hammer,if it cranks the starter is bad.2) make sure the security light is going out.If not it is not reading the passkey and the ignition is faulty.3)when it does not start, jumper with a good battery and see if it starts if it does the battery voltage is low.4) make sure the brake lights go on with every application of the brake pedal.5)try to start in neutral instead of park when the failure occurs,if it does...the neutral safety switch is no good.
best of luck

Are you certain the security has not immobilized the car? If it isn't a security issue, there is probably a problem in the start circuit.
If you check for power on the small starter solenoid wire, with the key held in crank, and no power is on that wire-the start circuit from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid has a problem. If the wire does have power with key in cranking position, probably a bad connection from battery to starter, since you have a new starter.
To be certain the engine is not locked up, put a socket and wrench on the crankshaft pulley center bolt and turn the engine over by hand a revolution or so.

2003 Saturn Vue with a identity anti theft system. Replaced my battery a few months ago. Couple weeks ago noticed a little difficulty starting up. Last week wouldn't start just clicking noise. Jumped...

Anti-theft system has nothing to do with it . Battery cables , maybe , Park neutral safety switch possibly ! With anti-theft system problem you wouldn't a click or anything , that is if the anti-theft disables fuel or the starter . Plus the SECURITY light would be on if it were a anti-theft system problem . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop that knows how to do starter circuit testing >
Starter Voltage Drop
How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit

And what's this identity anti theft system ? No such thing ! The vehicle has a content theft an vehicle theft deterrent system !
This system disables fuel not cranking of the engine. The VCM/PCM will not disable the fuel due to any BCM message for the remainder of the ignition cycle.
If the VCM/PCM does not receive the same password from the BCM as the last learned one, the vehicle will start and then stalls due to the Fuel Lockout.

99 ranger won't crank, periodically, has anti theft.

I looked at your security system, it is starter motor disable and fuel injectors. You can usually get the starter crank, but, if it is the security system, it still won't start because of fuel injectors. I don't know any way to bypass security system. You can check for applicable trouble codes, if there are any?

I just replaced the starter on my 1989 Subaru DL 4DR Wagon and it started fine, now less then 2 months later, all it does is click when I tuurn the key. Do I need another starter this quickly? Could

Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good.
At the starter motor, two voltage circuits. One comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other circuit goes hot with key in the crank position. The starter motor grounds through the engine block. You could use a test lite to check voltage at starter motor. There could be safety issues testing at starter motor, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and functional parking brake is set. If automatic tranny there is an inhibit switch, I usually call it a neutral switch. There could be other issues?

Sounds like a faulty / intermittent Earth connection. Check all the battery and earth leads where they connect to the Battery, Engine, Starter Motor and Body. If possible disconnect, clean thoroughly by removing any corrosion or paint that could cause a poor connection, and reconnect making sure all are tight.

Replaced battery about a month ago. After about as

Could be a poor connection on one of the battery terminals - be sure they are tight.
Could also be a starter solenoid that is sticking.
