Test the neutral safety switch.

===

Put your foot on the brake.

Move gear lever to "N"

Start the car

If it start then it's a defective neutral safety switch.

Shift to PARK and shut off engine.

    The neutral safety switch is mounted on the transmission.

    The linkage turns it.

    Believe it or not Lexus design the exhaust system to be DIRECTLY under the switch!

    Tight the bolt and clean the connect and TRY TO START AT PARK.

    It may be a bad contact or miss-aliment because of the loose bolt.

The factory anti-theft system may not like the chip in the key you are using.
You may have to get a new key or have the system tested.

Possibly, but another cause could be your voltage regulator in your alternator. Hope this helps.

1997 ES 300 How to reset anti-theft system when car won't start

With the doors shut, insert the key into the drivers door lock. Lock and unlock the door 5 times. This should reset the system. If that doesn't work you should contact a qualified repair shop.

There is an anti-theft relay that is stuck open. that needs to be replaced. I'm unsure of the location, probably under the dash somewhere. it will be a small, plastic box about the size of a pack of cigarettes.
