In the 87 model the check EGR light was triggered by mileage to get you to have the EGR cleaned and serviced. In 87 they didn't have differential pressure transducers or smart computers to monitor EGR performance. On the right Side of the dash there is a square hole plug about 1 X 1.5 inches square it's behind your key ring if the keys are in the truck looks like it's for a factory option switch that you don't have it matches the one on the left side for the emergency flasher switch. Pull it out and look in the back of the hole at the top there is a black switch I can't remember if it resets the EGR Light or just checks the light Play with it and see of it turns off your EGR light.

Check the round black vacuum valve,it is connected to egr valve by a vacuum hose, pry it apart gently, there is a rubber diapham inside, remove it and hold it up to a light and look for any light coming thru it,or water moisture in in.

For 1987 Dodge Truck RAM 50 4WD 2.6L 2BL 4cyl...

The mechanical fuel pump is mounted on the side of the head, centered between the runners of the intake manifold. The intake manifold does not require removal, but access can be tricky. A selection of socket extensions, swivels and open end wrenches can be helpful.

Have a 2005 dodge ram with 5.7 hemi has an eng

Dodge/Chrysler EGR valves are known to be unreliable. The one on my wife's 05 Grand Caravan died in the 40k miles range.

They are not really serviceable. The usual fix is replacement. Part will be between $50 and $150 depending on where you get it. Installation most of the time is 2-4 bolts and the harness.

How do I turn off the red EGR light on the instrument panel, I understand that it automatically comes on after so many miles.

Ok, I know this one.
lower right side of the instrument cluster, you will find a small 2 inch by 1 inch
"pop out" little rectangle in the dash. this can be popped out with a screw driver.
Look inside there and you will see a small screw for removing the front of the dash
cluster and next to that is a little switch. If your EGR light is on all the time, push
this little switch to the right. Now start your Ram 50. Check EGR light should
come on for a moment and then go off.

Where is the EGR valve on 1986 Dodge Ram D50 pickup 2.0cc 4 cyl

if there pipes or tubes on top of your exhaust manifold that is where your EGR valve should be. if you want diagrams or text to help fix this problem i suggest the book from Chilton. they tend to explain thing pretty well.
