I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. HAD TO TAKE APART THE STEERING COLUMN TO RE-INSERT SCREW/PIN. SIMPLE FIX BUT A LIL TIME CONSUMING. LOTS OF PATIENCE.

Do you mean the shift indicator don't move? The indicator is activated by a cable that gets pulled as you move the shift lever down. There's a spring that pull's it back, so if the screw falls out the indicator will say it's in park no matter what gear you have it in. If you put in park you may be able to get the screw back in.

How to remove console on a 2000 Ford Contour SE?

A couple screws on each side of the console at the front under the dash, a couple inside your armrest. Pop off the bezel surrounding the auto shift handle. Pull out the little spacer just below your radio...I believe that's it.

Pull up the ebrake as far as you can, and finnagle the thing out of there there.

My suzuki verona 04, gear shifter is stuck on park, i have to hit the brakes severally for it to move to drive.

There is a lock mechanism that prevents moving shifter out of PARK unless your foot is on the brake. You can bypass this by sticking a small flat blade screwdriver or a key into the little slot on the console by the shift lever.

Are your brake lights coming on when you press the brake pedal? The shift lock is released electrically when your foot is on the brake, and the sensor is tied to the brake light switch circuit. The brake light switch can be seen if you look under the dash at the brake arm. First, check the connector. If the switch is out of adjustment, you can screw it in or out to adjust. Or just buy a new one.

I just bought this 2000 buick century, after buying gear shifter/odometer light would cut out. i would hit the dash board with my fist a couple times and it would return, now it wont come back on. i know...

its probably the bulbs,, they were lose and banging the dash jolted them on, Now they are just to far out of the socket or blown,, remove the dash cluster and replace them,, look up along the dash for hold down screws, ( by the gage and speedo cluster )

How do I set car to be on 4x4?

I believe that Mitsubishi has one of the best and easiest 4X4 selector systems on the Pajero/ Montero. Just below the gear shifter lever is the 4X4 mode selector. A lever like the gear shifter that works in a up, down movement. On your dash board you will notice a sort of axle, chassis diagram in green light. In normal 2WD or 2H mode the lever is set all the way back and on the dash only the rear wheels a lite up in green light on the axle, chassis diagram. This is for normal driving on the highway and smooth roads of dry dirt roads. Pushing the lever up wards while moving at crawling speed will engage the light 4X4 mode which is 4H for when the driving gets a little slippery. All 4 wheels on the axle/ chassis diagram will be lite green. Shifting the lever from the 4H position to the left and upwards will engage the 4HLc mode for 4X4 on sand and deep snow. This will also engage the central diff lock which will show on the axle/ chassis diagram on the dash board with the center box also lite up. Further up from the 4HLc mode and while pushing down on the 4X4 lever push it to the top most position, but only do this when at a stand still with your foot on the brake pedal. This will engage the 4LLc mode with 4X4 and central diff lock on for when driving gets sweaty on thick mud up and incline. To disengage this mode stop, foot on break put it in P and then pull down the lever to one of the lower settings.

Shifter button fell out

Look under the grip. There should be either a pin or a set screw. Remove the pin/set screw and pull the shift lever up. The installation is the opposite. Good luck.

Shifter is loose. Bolt or pin fell out of bottom, only have one gear.

when this happend to me i still had all gears. there is no pin or bolt, the shifter is held in place with epoxy and pressure.. its ****, total ****. i suggest looking at the pdf service manuals on www.techcapri.com and re-building the area that holds the shifter in place. this involves removing the shifter head and leather-ish boot around it (may as well clean it while you've got it off) and then pulling the shifter up into place. then from the underside of the car, inserting some epoxy and or reinforcement brackets (to make it stronger than it originally was) to hold it in place. i used two pieces of 1/8th thick aluminium underneath the little tabs that were originaly glued/pressured into place.

please note the manuals on techcapri are for the 91-93 modles our 94 modle is slightly different, but the manual is still very helpful for identifying parts and how to get at them.
