VW timing belt intervals used to be 6 years / 60,000 miles. However, a service bulletin a couple of years ago reduced the recommended intervals to 4 years / 40,000 miles on all models. Its not clear if this is a 2000cc engine or a 2000 model year car, but although the mileage is low if the vehicle is over 4 years old then a new timing belt is recommended. The water pump and auxilliaries should also be checked and if necessary changed at the same time.

A failed belt or a failure of the water pump impeller which is driven by the timing belt will cause the valves to crash with the piston heads, resulting in very expensive damage.

Unfortunately there is no recomended time or mileage as to when to replace the timing belt this is the same as your Honda. this is an interference engine, meaning the valves and the piston cannot be in the same place at the same time. my advice is not to go longer than 60,000 miles. that is MY opinion. other than that change oil and filter check all belts and hoses. normal service should keep you running over 100,000 miles. hope this helps get back to me if you need more help, Please rate my fix? as i strive to be tthe best Thanks Ray

Yes, it is an interference engine, so if the timing belt fails it blows the engine, but 20K is very early to worry about that. at that mileage, there shouldnt be too much to worry about other then maybe some fluids.

WHY AND WHEN DO I NEED TO CHANGE THE TIMING BELT ON A 2000 HONDA ACCORD, 6 CYLINDER?

Every 100,000 miles or so you need to change the timing belt as it is the cornerstone to the engine. If the timing belt fails, and your engine is an interference engine, it can make the valves smash into the pistons which will need a full rebuild ($$$$) or replacement.

Don't scrimp on the timing belt, get one direct from Honda or at the very least a very good blueprint. A few hundred dollars getting a new one and installing it will save thousands in case it breaks.

My 2000 honda accord have over 150,00 miles on it do i need to have the time change replaced

if you mean timing chain/belt, then i would have to say.... maybe.

it should be replaced every 60,000 miles. if it was done 20,000 miles ago then it should NOT need replacing. if it is the same one that came on it in 2000 with 150,000 on it (which i doubt) then replace it immediately. peel back the cover and look at it. if it looks cracked, frayed, etc then replace it. if it looks good then leave it.

When should my honda accord 2006 timing belt be changed

the manual calls for replacement every 105,000 miles, it is preferred that it be done at 100,000 miles (gives a safe margin), if it breaks/fails u can damage the engine.

Normal 20,000 mile service, what is done?

This service generally involves an oil and filter change , tire rotation
and a safety inspection. While changing the oil, the mechanic will be performing visual inspections of the brakes, belts and hoses inspecting for any fluid leaks,, listening for any abnormal noises, and paying attention to any irregularities in the operation of the vehicle.
If you have your service at the dealership, have them check and perform any recalls on the vehicle.
Possible Repairs Needed at the 20,000 Mile Service It's not uncommon for your vehicle to need a brake pad replacement at this mileage, and on some vehicles the tires may need replacement.

Recommendations
  • We recommend considering replacement of the air filter every year or 12,000 to 15,000 miles.
Why this happens
  • If oil has contaminated the air filter, it should be replaced. Oil contamination may indicate a problem with the PCV system.
  • Air filters will need replacement more often in vehicles driven in dusty and sandy areas.

How much to replace a timing chain on a 2000 vw passat--1.8 turbo-- should i do this?--it has 113,000 miles on it and it runs great.-- have changed the oil on it every 5000 miles since new--

You should have the timing belt changed between 90-100K miles. When you are having the belt changed you should also change the water pump rollers. The total cast would be $950.00

There is no problem with the car at all i just want to keep the car in great condition so i was just wondering what regular maintenance is the most important and needs to be done regularly besides the oil...

New timing belt and serpentine belt every 50,000 miles. New filter with every oil change. Replace the air filter when it gets so that you can't see diffuse light through it. Watch fluid levels. Have the CV joints and rubber boots checked every 20,000 miles or so. Check with your transmission servicer for fluid and filter changes. Replace platinum spark plugs every 100,000 miles along with new spark plug wiring. Check the codes if the check engine light comes on. Replace the fuel filter ever 20,000 miles--more often if poor fuel quality.

2000 VW 2.0 Beetle - Manual say not to replace timing belt?

General rule on most cars with a timing belt is change somewhere between 80K and 120K. On some cars, failure of timing belt will destory the engine.

If car is only worth $2500, and labor (parts are cheap on this usually) is $1000, if you can't do it yourself, need to decide if you risk it.

Are you willing to throw away the car when the timing belt breaks? Or spend the $1000, and have some other failure that renders the car useless 5000 miles later?

This is really a financial decision you have to make. If engine blows, you may be able to get $500 for it from junkyard, and you still have your $1000 saved from not changing the timing belt.

Car quit and wont restart

It could be a any or a combination of failing components. If you haven't changed the fule filter recently (say within the past 20,000 miles) I'd change it first. Next. check the fuel pressure at the service port near the injectors to ensure you're getting the right fuel pressure to the injectors.
