Brake to the floor in order to stop. they are new

Brake to the floor in order to stop. Just put brake fluid to try to correct the problem. One month ago, new pads, rotors, hose, shoes, drums.

Before telling you to do anything DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THIS IS FIXED. You could cause serious harm or death to yourself or others, not to mention the property damage.

1) NEVER add brake fluid to a brake system. The volume of the system never changes beyond what the system needs. As shoes, pads, rotors, and drum wear, the fluid level in the reservoirs will go down slightly. Any more than that, and there is probably a leak somewhere.

2) If the fluid level was ever below the low level mark on the reservoirs, then chances are, the brake system needs to be bled of air. There are many resources on the www to tell you how to do this.

You've started down the right path by putting new pads and shoes, and I assume having rotors and drums turned. WIth a brake pedal all the way to the floor, and no leaking brake fluid on the ground, then follow the procedure for bleeding the brakes.

I would suggest that you need to firstly ensure the vehicle is NOT driven till repaired.(Dangerous as is is)
Next is to ensure that there is NO brake fluid leakage. If so repair.
Bleed all brakes starting from the rear of the vehicle.
Place brake bleeder kit on the bleeder nipple at rear wheel, get someone to pump brake pedal till firm or at least 3-4 X, while they hold pedal down HARD, release nipple, then do up again before the brake pedal is released.
Repaet on all four wheels ensuring that the brake master cylinder is ALWAYS kept ful.

Make sure the rear shoes are manually adjusted up properly ,then is still no good renew the master cylinder because the seal between the front and rear chambers could have gone ,but i do feel that you should manually adjust the rear brakes up properly,slacken handbrake cable before you do this though

Front and rear drum brakes, the pads are ok, but the brake pedal started going to the floor. When I tried to bleed them, the rear bleeder screws broke. So I replaced both wheel cylinders. The rubber...


OK........as you have stated that you have bled the brakes properly.....was there fluid coming out each bleed nipple as a flowing stream...????

And did you shut off the bleed nipple half way down stroke....?????

If this is all ok, then I would be looking at a failed master cylinder.......and what is occurring is the fluid is leaking from the primary to the secondary within the master cylinder !!!!!

When I go to brake my brakes go to the floor but do not stop me. I have not had any brake troubles up unto this point. My brake fluid levels are fine and I have found no leaks. Time for a new brake...

Few things too look at. Here are the following:

- The brake pistons may have leaks that's why when brakes are applied it will floor but won't stop. You will have to have it replaced.
- The brake booster is faulty. If the brake booster is faulty same result will happen
- Brake fluid is out. Try to fill it to the right level and it can resolve the problem

The following will surely need replacement to resolve the problem.

The brake cylinder in the right rear tire started leaking. I changed it and bled the brakes., now they won't stop and will go all the way to the floor. where and how do I adjust them? THANK YOU jOE!


You may need to further bleed the brakes. Something pumping to bleed the brakes can **** in air at the brake fluid reservoir. Try using a vacuum pump to **** out brake fluid from the release screw at the brake side. Make sure you always have enough fluid at the reservoir.

hole in brake line and possible need new brakes put mre fluid in and have someone looking under the car while you step on the brake peddle should be able to see where it is leaking right a way

What are the proper steps to bleeding your brakes on a 1990 vw golf deisel


For left hand drive vehicles: (If the car does not have ABS system you do not need any diagnostic equipment!)

IMPORTANT NOTE: You need using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car in order to bleed the ABS block. Follow instructions by scantool equipment for bleeding the ABS block.


1. This bleeding procedure requires two people. Remove the brake system reservoir cap, and fill up with new brake fluid until "MAX" level is reached.
2. Lift the car, or use a channel for access under vehicle.
3. Put the gearbox in "N" - Neutral position, or in "P" - Parking position for automatic transmission.
4. Start the engine and push the brake pedal firmly for 4 - 5 times to the floor, and maintain the brake pedal pushed to the floor.
5. Begin with the rear right wheel. Another person remove the dust cap and loose the brake caliper bleeding screw until the brake pedal goes to the floor. At this moment maintain the brake pedal pushed to the floor, engine idling, and tight the brake caliper bleeding screw. Use a plastic hose: one end connected to the brake caliper bleeding screw, and another end inside a recovery bottle for used brake fluid.
6. Repeat steps no.#4 and no.#5 until no air flows through the brake caliper bleeding screw. Tight the brake caliper bleeding screw, and put the dust cap in their place.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All the time check the brake fluid level in the brake system reservoir, and fill up if necessary!

17. Test the car brake system. The brake pedal movement no more than 1/3 of total stroke until the floor, when brake pedal is applied. Maximum admissible is 1/2 of total stroke.

Excessive brake pedal travel brake pedal goes almost to the floor before stopping, tried bleeding brakes at the callipers with no difference.


Check the rear brakes are not leaking, or have air in the fluid feed line.
If above OK, it's probably caused by a faulty master cylinder.
(To check :- Slacken off the master cyl feed to the front (then rear) brakes, and observe if any fluid is being delivered - if not it is definitely a master cyl problem).

Brake pedal goes down to floor. Putting brake fluid doesn't solve problem. Vehicle must coast to a complete stop.


First look for obvious leaks under the vehicle, especially the inside area of each wheel... If you see fluid, you have either a blown cylinder seal or a bad line (check the rubber hoses to the front and back brakes too) Repair the offending part and bleed the air out of the system... (remember to clean pads or shoes if they have fluid on them)... If you see no hint of leakage anywhere, then suspect the master cylinder... if you remove the master cylinder, check and make sure that it didn't leak fluid into the brake booster diaphragm (Brake fluid will destroy the booster)... as in any repair when you open the system (lose fluid), you will need to bleed out the air to restore function... hope this helps...;-)
