Question about 2005 Ford Escape

1 Answer

Can't get key out of ignition on 2005 Ford Escape. Occasionally, can't get key to turn to start the vehicle either. Gear Shift is now starting to stick and won't shift into reverse without having to use both hands to shift it. It seems to be humidity/weather related because it gets worse when it's cold and/or rainy. Sometimes turning the key rapidly a few times unlocks it but not always. Tried slamming it into park but that doesn't seem to do it either nor does tapping the key to get it out. do I need to replace ignition lock cylinder or is it something else going on?

Testimonial: "Also asked a Ford mechanic I know last night and he said the same. Just wish I didn't have to take it to the dealer & spend way too much $$ to fix it"

If the battery does not charge - alternator (replace)

The battery starts the vehicle and the alternator charges the battery and runs the vehicle after the vehicle is running.

Why will my 2005 ford escape not crank over?

Try another key.The security chip in your key may have went bad and the pats module isnt recognizing it.If you dont have another factory ford key you may have to buy a new one and have it programmed.

ok the safety feature on an auto gearbox is that the gear select has a solinoid lock on the shift & you norm have to start engine first before you can select drive now if the engine is running & not allowing you to select a drive then for some reason the solinoid is losing its signal or going faulty or even the shaft needing a little lube IE: wd40 now my volvo won't even allow me to take the key out untill its in park hope this helps

Can't get the keys out of the ignition

Hi Bill, I had the same problem with a Mitsubishi Pajero, I pulled up and put the gear lever into park turned off the ignition and blow me I tried and tried to get the key's out.
After 3/4s of an hour I realised the selector button on the Auto gear stick was stuck in! with a bit of fiddling I got it out and Bingo the key's too.
Later a little Wd40 and it hsn't done it since. So maesure he lever is well into park, parking brake on and button all te way out.
Good Luck! and Merry Christmas,

2002 Ford Escape will not shift into drive

This is the shift lock...you will need battery to release it electrically but there is an over ride by the shifter..either a button to push or a place to put your ignition key. This will release the shifter
