Engine oil level?? if its correct then look for another engine ,but before you do get a mechanic to have a listen first ,might just be a valve lifter ,or the flex plate on the torque converter broke ,really need to hear it to tell you what it is

I've seen these knocking symptoms described by people end up being anything from a flat tire to a cat crawled in by the fan and got wacked up by the blade when starting.
There is a chance there is a bad mechanical problem like a rod knocking, or it can be something in the accessory drive belt or driven items making the noise. The fact that the noise comes with the engine running tells you that the noise comes from something moving. That narrows it down to the accessory drive, or rotating engine parts; which includes, pistons, rods, crankshaft, camshaft, lifters, torque convertor, and flywheel.
I've had rods knocking, and loose flywheels knocking. It's often difficult for a novice to differenciate, and sometimes even for a pro.
It's often helpfull to know where the noise seems to be coming from. Does it increase with engine speed, does it change when in gear or in neutral? Is there a noticeable reduced oil pressure?

knocked the ECT connector wires loose?
so my guess you mean, hot engine races, because cold engines all do that , by design.
racing idle hot.
  1. engine not hot. thermostat bad.
  2. engine hot and Ect Sensor lies, (wires fell off)
  3. ISC valve stuck open or wires, bad to it.
  4. vacuum hose knocked loose or you cracked it, now sucks air and engine races, (speed density EFI systems

What causes bad gas mileage stalling at high speeds and rain idiling rough engine knocking 2003 Isuzu Rodeo

Check the coils, there may be a bad coil. That lets moisture in it, and causes the engine to mis fire. God-Bless! Its worth a try!

I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu automatic when it is in first and second gear it makes a knocking sound but when it shifts to third gear it stops I don't think it's a rod knocking because it isn't consent

More information is needed to help with this.

1. Is the knocking coming from the engine, the transmission or elsewhere?

2. If you believe it is from the engine, start the motor and put the auto in neutral and gradually depress the accelerator pedal to gently increase the engine speed for 2 minutes. If you can replicate the knocking noise then obviously it is engine.

3. If the knocking is from the engine check the engine oil level which you should be doing frequently anyhow to ensure you top it up and do not run the oil level low and destroy the motor. (Failure to have the engine oil changed at the required intervals can also result in excessive wear and damage to engine components.) If you do this check and find the oil level is very low then advise here when you repost your query with more information about the source of the knocking sound.

4. Also indicate in your post what grade (octane rating) of fuel you are running the engine on.

99 Suburban 4x4 knocking sound when shifting to highet gear when hot

If it sounds like a rapid tapping (like someone is using a small hammer to hit the engine block really fast) then you probably have spark knock. It happens to older engines. As the engine gets older, carbon builds up inside the combustion chamber and effectively increases the compression ratio. Since you are using low octane fuel, it doesn't resist spark knock as well as high octane (this is a reason performance cars use high octane) and thus you get spark knock. An easy way to tell for sure it to run a tank or two of 91 or better octane through. Since you'll be mixing it with 87 octane, it could take two fill-ups to see a result. If the knock goes away, then you know it is spark knock. If not, or the knock I described is not what you hear, then I would need a better description (perhaps a video) of the sound you hear. If it is spark knock, you can run a cleaner through (Sea Foam works great) the engine and that usually fixes spark knock. Sea Foam works best when given to the engine through a vacuum line. Don't add too much at once, it will hydro lock the engine. Just let it **** in a bit and when the idle comes back up, put a bit more in. I would pour half the can in the tank and feed the other half to the engine through the vacuum line. Be prepared, when you feed it to the engine through the vacuum line, it is going to smoke a lot until it burns off the Sea Foam. That is normal and will go away after a short drive.

What part of the engine knocks when your knock sensor is bad on a 11995 cutlass supreme sl

Hello: The Knock Sensors purpose is to detect pre-ignition, when the computer receives a knock signal it re tarts the timing to prevent the pre-ignition. Any mechanical related knock will activate the knock sensor signal. If the knock sensor is bad it WILL NOT cause the engine to knock.......

What is engine knocking noise

Engine knocking noise is that sound from the engine that sounds like a knock. It is caused when there is an increased metal to metal contact, due to friction n wear of parts n it is mostly associated wid insufficient circulation of engine oil to the engine parts hence increase in friction n the noise. It is a warning to be taken seriously or the engine might finally pack up. This is what we finally refer to as a knocked engine. Sometimes in such extreme cases replacement might be d only solution.

Motors shaking an engians knocking bad

It may be due to lack of quality of the fuel you are using. Try good quality fuels having anti knocking agents (It is a gasoline additive used to reduce engine knocking and increase the fuel's octane rating. If the problem persists your engine is bad.

1997 LeSabre has engine "knock"

If it knocks at 50 it will knock sitting still if you race it up. Is the oil pressure good? These motors hardly ever have a bearing problem. The only knock problem was the harmonic balacer that comes apart and knocks. The rubber falls apart and it will make a knock sound all the time, more with the ac on. If you have a knock at 50 or highway speed only you may need a outer tie rod end only. Get the front end checked as they will make a knocking sound on the highway. reply

You may have gotten contaminated gas. Buy a good grade of octane booster from the parts store and pour it into the gas tank. After a couple of miles, the knocking should stop.
