Question about 2005 Hyundai Elantra

I lost my key fob and my car won't start with my spare key, what can I do?

Well, the spare key has no chip. Elantra's didn't have chipped keys in 2005. The spare key works great if I don't lock the car with the key fob. However this time I locked it with the key fob and now if I try to open the car with the spare key, the alarm sounds and then when I try to ignite the car it won't start.

Let me be more precise about my problem.

The 2005 Hyundai Elantra doesn't have chipped keys. However when locking the car with the key fob, the car has an alarm. If you open the car with the spare key the alarm goes off and then I can't start the car.

I lost my key fob, therefore I can't drive my car now with my spare key (as I locked the car with the key fob and then lost it).

Has the spare key been programmed to unlock the security system? do u have a security/immoblizer light of any kind flashing when u try to start the engine? if yes is the answer to the above questions you will need to get the spare key programmed, on this car in order to program the key to work you must have the dealer do it with a special electronic scan tool that teaches the security module to recognize the new key, there is no "at home" programing procedure for this car..

It should start with the spare key ---but in saying this you may not have a chipped spare if you bought the car second hand .If it is chipped then its possible that the chip has lost its memory by being stored on top of the TV or near a radio signal source .Their is no magic mechanics code to start this vehicle ,as its a 2005 then the chances are the vehicle uses encrypted software so its a dealer only job ,if its pre encrypted software then if you can get the four figure code from the dealer then a mobile key man might be able to re-programme the spare for you and programme another key cut from the spare .Often found though its cheaper at the dealer .

Well they do use a chipped security key ,their is one in my yard at the moment that i have just put new brake pads on.But this one has the master key with the unlock button on it ,and i do know the spare has a chip because the woman owner lost the master and the spare started the car so i could get it to elche where the dealer is and they read the car software to make sure the VIN number read out matched chassis number under the bonnet before they would order the key with a button ,But i still couldnt order the key till i took the woman up the garage in person with her passport ,padron, original utility receipt ,then they photostated all the papers and the car registration document before they would order a key ,took about a week to get it ,120euros plus the reprogrammeing another 80euros

SOURCE: My Spare Key Won't Start My Car

ok well here's the thing. This key has not been used before. The keys are cut to the specs of the ignition so they may be undercut so to speak. I know on my car i can turn it upside down it will work. But on the other hand it could just possibly be a back up for when you lock your keys in your car (not likely but it's still possible). You can keep putting your key in and out a bunch of times and **** the steering wheel back and forth as you turn the key to get it used to the ignition switch. See if that works and if not i will see what i can come up with in the meantime for this exact car.

SOURCE: How to program a new hyundai sonata key fob

First find little notch on side of FOB that will allow you to open the FOB itself. Next insert mini flathead and twist hard until unti snaps open. Hopefully you didnt break it yet. Then pull out circuitboard within FOB. nEXT remove battery and press red button and hold for 5 seconds. Replace Battery then put circuitry back in place. Now, with circuitry in place hold all three buttons while simultaneously pressing the red circuit overload reset button on the board. Then, press the thre buttons in this exact order ( this is a very important step) press the door unlock buttton twice before waiting three seconds then pressing the hood open button 3 times followed by a 5 second delay then pressing lock> But wait, before you press lock you must "chime" this code to the song "waiting for a girl like you" by foreigner. The code will then automatically find your cars code, get married and then you will be in luck - many baby remotes will start to fall from your dash board. If this doesnt work it is probably due to the fact that you have more of a hard rocker or redneck remote and follow all prior procedures but replacethe song with only "welcome to the jungle" or tears in my beer". If this still doesnt work, grab a beer and share it generously with your remote. When this doesnt work, (as I suspect at this point it wont) take your remote and after finishing the 12 pak, take the remote to your local hyundai dealer and threaten to throw up in the main sales room if they dont program it for you. Mae sure you slur the fact that your dad owns Hyundai (even though you are as white as can be) and that you will sue them all out of work if they dont do this for you you then proceed to puke on the front door handle and tell the customers " this is what you have to look forward to if you get oneof these BEutieeeesss hahahaha" while rubbing your puke infested hands all overtheir nice shirts and blouses, ....this I promise will work. And you should have a nicely programmed remote the next morning after waking up in the drunk tank and the officer gives you a ride home because the mayor of "yourtown" is your neighbor and your supposed to be at home cooking a barbeque for him that after....HIC...that after...HIC that ...noon.

lost the operators guide I see, like all post here ,same topic.
the dash warning are unique to all cars, all years, and all options.
sounds like you have SKIM, option ,
the operators guide said.
try both keys, car came with 2, lost that too> the spare fob set?
there are 2 lamps SKIS and SKIM.
the key logo means this :
the key transponder chip is bad in THIS key , try the other.
there are no batteries in the key, for this.
the battery fob only runs door lock, logic.

never run any jeep 1999 to now with only 1 key
use 3 keys, so you can make your own spares.
or pay big money later... for sure.

Any computer can tell about remot

remote what? and no YEAR CAR> really?
radio, head end ?, key fobs. what ?
why not post the symptoms. why not say that.

if this is RKE , remove key entry issue?
and you lost the 2nd one that came with car? did you, (more symptoms?)
is it a door lock failure or car starting or running failure.
no there is no tester, (dealer has one) but no real tester
at my local auto store they have this POS tester that only tests
the lock transmitter for RF transmission energy, near worhless test if ever, did you replace the RKE remote battery yet, (second fob lost)

making a real tester would be hard with 10,000 different car key protocols, in force. very very hard to do. and the new cars
have secret ROLLING encrypted key messages. (impossible )

ON my car (a very strict 08) you can make a 3rd fob or transponder key at any time.
if you lost the 2 spares you are screwed. never cars with only 1 or 2 fobs, on mine its 3 fobs min. and 8 fobs max.
i can run 1 real fob and 3, $13 key only transonder keys and that works too. making me DIY full time, forever.

not posting year is big error here.
vast generational change by years.

to bet best help post car make , year, and engine size if engine question. then state what is wrong.
my car will not crank, or cranks and runs for 2 seconds. or
my IMMO lamp shows FAULTS (read the operators guide IT TELLS you what to do with Immoblizer active warnings, yes, RTM)

Lost set of keys, alarm was on car locked. Found spare key only, it will open door, alarm goes off, but the key won't start engine. It will turn in ignition, but dead! It's a Chevy HHR 2006! HELP

Close the doors. Lock the doors using the buttons on the key fob. Use the fob to again unlock the doors. The key should then work the ignition. If this will not work, you will have to tow your vehicle to the dealer and buy a new key and/or fob and have it programmed to the vehicle.

Won't start, could it be fob or engine?

Try not using the fob at all open the door with the key. And start the jeep if it works without issue then its the fob. If its still not working correctly remove the battery from the fob and try again(since if it was damaged could be sending the signal for the panic button) the next step is the key try your spare security key can become worn and cause issues with the antitheft system. After that it only leaves computer problems and those can get spendy
