I had it replaced in July and it worked ok for a few weeks. Is there one that goes to a colder degree but still warms past the 'C' on the in dash heat indicator?

Hi:
Your thermostat is possibly stuck open, so start out by removing it and replacing it with a new , stock thermostat. You can inspect your old one,and see if it is indeed stuck open too. It should be sealed when cold.

Thermostat is probably bad. If when it is cold out your heat doesn't get very warm then it is the thermostat for sure.

I have a 1997 cadillac deville and it keep over heating. i have changed the hose out twice and checked for leaks, plus i my fan is working fine...

Check the waterpump and thermostat. When the waterpump doesn't turn, engine heat is not transported to the radiator. When the thermostat doesn't open once warm the same happens - no engine cooling.

The radiator should be hot op top and cooler at the bottom. If it's cold allover then there's no cooling fluid transport

Heater blows cold air even when engine temp is normal. Where is the thermostat and how difficult would it be for someone with moderate mechanical skills to R&R?

your thermostat will have no bearing on your heater blowing cold air. My s type is kind of funny with its heating/cooling at times too as are several other models I've observed. Since your blower motor is working and blowing out air (cold or not) you may need to have your heater core replaced (part is around 140 excl labor if you have it installed) might be able to get you a diagram of my jtis software if you're a do it yourselfer. It takes a skilled mechanic several hours to remove the dash to r/r core. Very tedious and if you're not familiar with it I'd recommend having a free weekend to do so. I would pay to have mine replaced to give you a straight answer in this matter.

Temperature gauge fluctuates and the heater blows cold air

Definitely check your fluid level in your radiator. Top it off all the way. I've seen that happen multiple times on cars that were low on anti-freeze. If that doesn't work try replacing your thermostat. It's cheap and the easiest place to start if topping off the fluid doesn't get you fixed up.

can you tell me more I just had the same problems is it runing cold or hot over heating . this is what mines was doing running cold when heat was on if it not mess up when the heat is on. I would get a thermostat from the chevy dealer trust me they work the best. if it is runing hot the try a fail safe thermostat you can get one at auto zone but when i put one of those in did not solve my problem there are ones that have a by pass featuer work good only if your car is over heating in not by a regular plan with no featuers. if you still have a problem trying this out try tps sensor get that checked. check for leacks antifreeze

When idling heats up normal, blows cold when driving on freeway

Sounds like your thermostat is not functioning properly. Go on line or get a manual on your van and see if its a big job. Most thermostats are pretty easy , but there are a few out there that are bears to get to, Hopefully yours will be an easy one

Good Luck

you say the temp gauge doesn,t work could it be possible the thermostat is stuck open which would mean the engines running cold which means the auto choke won,t knock off normally if you short the temp switch wire to ground the gauge goes straight over to hot if it does,nt then the gauge is faulty but its usually the switch as far as the high c/o it could be as stated above or some thing as simple as an air cleaner c/o should be under 2.5 these carbs weren,t the best when they came out which type is it if its the v v i would get it overhauled
