Did you find the solution yet? This just happeded to me. But my odometer went out, the blower fan stays on when it rains, and the lights to my shifter, a/c, and stereo are malfunctioning.

How to fix a speedometer cable

Well you know it does not have a speedo cable since you replaced the speed sensor in the transmission.
My guess would be a problem with the speedo or cluster.

Battery changed on 2002 toyota camry, speedometer pegged at 140

Try disconnecting the battery again, only the + side. Wait for 3-5 min before hooking back up. Turn the switch on but not over, then start the car after a few seconds.

The speedometer no longer functions

This is an easy fix. Turn the key off. Press and hold the trip odometer reset button. Hold it until you see the odometer light up and it will say "soF" and a number. When you see this then let the trip odometer button go. The cluster will enter into a self test where all the lights come on and all of the gauges sweep. When the self test is complete then your speedometer will be back on the correct side of the peg and will work again.

Speedometer needle is stuck under its peg.

Bummer. Unless you know how to remove the glass/ plastic cover, which you intern have to successfully remove, and re-install the dash board without breaking the plastic clips, you should go to a professional. Sorry buddy.

Speedometer is pegged full scale with engine off and on.

free wiring diagram will take some digging if at all posible but I can tell you that the vehicle"speed sensor" gives the computer "data" and the computer tells the motorized electric speedo to move. dead battery and bad connections freak the computer out and sometimes peg the gauges. then they stay there after the connections are fixed. this doesnt mean the speedo or any thing is ruined--just need to reset it. I think on cavalier you can hold the trip reset button in and turn the key on and it will go into a self test mode bringing things back to normal.I THINK thats how that one works--try it. if not there is a funtion in the chevy handheld computer to do it. Hope I helped. Thanks
