Question about 1998 Ford Explorer

Replaced fuel pump, and it starts now but runs

I replaced the fuel pump and filter on a 98' explorer and it starts now but runs rough and dies. what am I doing wrong?

I would next check the fuel pressure regulator if the pump was not pumping, or the filter was plugged some of the leftover waste in the lines from one or the other of these issues may have plugged the regulator causing inconsistent fuel pressure that would cause the engine to run rough, or possibley cut out fuel entirely, causing the vehicle to die
