Question about 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

1 Answer

Turn signals were intermittent and now will not

Problem Vehicle: 2001 Olds Alero -- 60K miles

The turn signals were intermittent and now will not work at all. I don't think it is the headlight/signal lever unit on the steering column as that has already been replaced. The turn signal fuse is ok. I have just found the recall info on the hazard flasher switch unit, which has not been replaced, but the hazard lights do work. Is it possible for the hazard lights to work and the hazard switch issues still kill the turn signals?

A defective electronic flasher relay will cause this problem. GM has a problem with these, please read on.

2001 Olds Alero -- The service Engine Soon light is on. Car has 22K miles. Any Ideas on the most logical problem? Is there a reset so that I can check if it is just a fluke. Vern Dale

Hi Vern,
Get behind the fuse box on the side (L) door; remove the cover, turn the key on, but don't turn on engine.
Push red button and hold for a couple of seconds, and you'll hear a "beep". When it beeps 3 times, push the button in and it'll reset.
I have a 2001 Olds (Alero), and have done thiis a few times.
Do you have an Owner's Manuel? That's how we fig. out...

Good luck!

2001 Olds Alero will act **** when switching gears

My car does the same thing. I wondered that myself, I don't think that's what it is though, I don't think you have an issue with the transmission. Your car has TWO check engine lights, and with the Alero--if there is an issue with the transmission one of the lights will come on. I am not 100% positive of this, but I had a 1999 Bravada (Olds) and it did do that when I had a tranny issue.

I notice when I drive my 2001 Alero my right leg gets SORE from pushing the pedal so hard. I think it is age, not the transmission.

READ YOUR SERVICE MANUALS. I don't get why people ignore them, honestly they have a wealth of information in them...could have saved a lot of people lots of money when people started claiming their car wouldn't start when it was a security feature that is listed in the manual that came with the book.
