Alternator installation? i have basic mechanical knowledge. will this be difficult to install myself for the first time?

Not a big deal. the hardest part will be replacing the serpentine belt. a chilton or haynes manual would be helpful.

basic mechanic knowledge will not get this fixed. go to a tranny shop let them know what the codes are they will be able to fix it faster and correctly without further problems.

Glass divider between passenger and truck bed does not roll up


I assume you have an XUV. Same thing happened to me a few months back. If the glass isn't broken ( and you would have heard it if it did), its the "midgate window regulator" that has failed. I recently installed one myself and it's not terribly difficult [couple of hours x 2 nights by myself - easier with another pair of hands] if you are somewhat mechanically inclined and have a basic tool set. Charging system lights come on in my Chrysler 300 3.5l. Went to mechanic paid $129 for diagnostics. Mechanic told me the alternator was overcharging. Went and bought a new alternator replaced it myself and...


That is a tough one. Alternators do not overcharge because the alternator is bad. They overcharge because the alternator CONTROLS are having problems. The charging system in your 2005 Chrysler 300 is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Your vehicle needs to be diagnosed by someone who understands how this system works.

Sorry about the $129....I would raise a BIG fuss about that if they told you the alternator needed to be replaced. Apparently, they do not understand how your system works. (It is very difficult to give a correct diagnosis if you do not know how the system works in the first place.)

you are obviously in australia with a laser ???
i would just go with king spring lows or super lows depending on what size rims you have on the car if you have anything over 16 inch go the lows

since i have been both diesel and regular mechanic i say you can do it, the basics are the same but the size of parts are different, yes you can do it, just follow the manual, and as i do double check everything, mark your bolts as most will not fit elsewhere, take your time and when you take something off remember how you took it off step by step, good luck to ya

Replace a water pump


Not too bad...however, you must have basic tool and mechanical knowledge. Try ordering a Chiltons manual at AutoZone or NAPA for ($25) and that should help a great deal.

How do I change the alternator on a 1991 honda prelude...is it easy to do myself or should I take to a mechanic if its location is difficult to reach?


it shouldn't be to difficult to do if it is accessible. Disconnect the battery first, then loosen and remove belt, remove wires and plug from alternator, then remove connecting bolts to the alternator, just go back in reverse order. Hope this helps!
