Check up glow plugs (4 pieces) and glow plug relay placed inside left bottom area near clutch pedal. It is no.4 relay from left to right. Verify also all electrical cables. In most cases the glow plug relay is out of order.

A lot of white smoke and engine dying could be bad head gasket. Search 'symptoms of head gasket failure' to make sure before you run it again. Good luck

99 audi a4 1.9 tdi misfires when cold and wont rev over 3000 revs and it puts out a bluish white smoke but if i bring it for a small drive and turn it off for couple of mins and start it again it perfect...

Audi, European design, parts may be hard to find for this, I suspect the automatic choke assembly is faulty, hence giving you the wrong combination of air and fuel mixture causing the smoke. You could however, if you are willing, to remove the assembly and try lubricating and cleaning it, as it may have carbon build up blocking the channels inside. Hope it works, Good luck
