Question about Chevrolet Avalanche

Open Question

My Chevrolet Avalanche (2002, Z71) parking brake cable broke and it seems like it should be easy to replace if I can find the right part. The cable I am referring to goes from the Parking Brake Release Handle to the floor where it disengages the floor brake. Can you help me find this or suggest a way to find the part; other than scouring the internet... I have tried that, but not sure I am finding what I need.

SOURCE: 2000 blazer parking release handle broken

You will have to look under the side panel, and you can release it with a screw driver, or get a pair of vise grips to pull the cable to release it.

SOURCE: 2002 2500 Silverado tailgate handle will not release catches

I found that loosening the bolts on the inside of the tailgate made the job a little easier. Don't remove them. I could get to the trim piece from the inside to make sure I didn't break it. Pep Boys does sell the small package of clips for about $1.00. Make sure you don't break the clip and hope it works anyway like I did and ended up doing the job twice. I should have bought a second package of clips.

SOURCE: parking brake release

There should be a manual release. Reach up along the parking brake pedal. Ford has a manual lever that you pull toward yourself to release the parking brake. Hope this helps our with your problem. Best of luck.

SOURCE: parking brake pedal goes to floor

The disc brake pads are NOT used for the parking brake. The parking brake uses mini-drum type shoes inside the rear disc rotor.

2005 Chevy Avalanche - The truck is in park, shut off, and the keys out. The brake lights are staying on. What do I need to do to get them to turn off?

There should be a brake light switch under the drivers side mounted on the brake pedal it may have broke or come out of adjustment in any case you could push the switch in by hand and tape it as to not drain your battery until you can get a replacement part for it if indeed it needs to be replaced otherwise it may just need to be adjusted.

How hard is it to replace the splash shields on the rear brakes on a 2005 Avalanche 1500 ? This is the shield that the emergency brakes are bolted to. It looks like you have to pull the axels.

Hi, this is not a terrible job, but you are correct, the axles need to be removed, After this, you remove the park brake shoe, cable, and hardware.Unbolt the shield, swap over park brake stuff, and reassemble. Not extremely har, but is a b it time consuming. Good luck...Coop

My avalanche emergency brake is real loose how do u fix that

If the pedal is loose (gets to the floor), you can tighten the cable itself under the truck. There is an adjustment bolt where the main cable splits into 2 (where it splits to get to either side). You will find that bolt along the driver side, behind the driver. If the brake don't grab, there is an adjustment wheel on one side of the park brake shoe brake cylinder. They have a tendancy to rust and seize up but are easily removed, clean and put back together. Good luck.

How do i adjust parking brake my self?

on the drivers side under the truck there is a cable that comes off the park brake ratchet, follow that cable, it splits into 2 cables, at that point you will see a long threaded shaft, tighten the nut on that shaft to tighten up park brake adjustment.
