Question about 2005 Volvo S40

1 Answer

2005 S40 lower control arm

Does anyone knows if it is possible to buy only the bushings for the lower control arm instead of buying the control arms. I have went to many autoparts in my area, some of them said that it is not possible, however some said yes. I don't want to end with some bushings that don't fit, neither don't want to buy something that is not necessary.

Yes you can but you may run into sizing problems. I recommend just buy thelower control arm. Cause if you need bushing. the arm is wearing. Replace it

How do i fix it

Sway bar bushing, Ball joints and Strut Mounts make these noises. See if the ball joint have grease fittings then get them greased. Check if Control arm bushings have play and can they be pumped with grease. If Control arm bushings have play then change the complete Control arm which will be economical in the long run. Please check and get back to me with more information.

You need to replace the upper control arm bushings and upper ball joint on both sides as well. You can buy them as a complete assembly. I had a similar problem and basically needed to replace everything in the front end of my 94 third. On mine the sound was the upper control arm shifting position on stops, starts, turns.

If it happens when you turn the wheel while stopped. Its probably your lower control arms ball joints.

the lca does serve a big purpose. and to check the play you have to put the jack under the lca and check for play. if you don't have anything except the boot. You can buy them at advance auto parts or any other one under help brand name.
