200 GMC Safari Drivers window. The window will go up and down and then it will just stop working. I have to wait a few minutes before I can get it to work again. I was thinking is was the a loose wire but...

there may be binding in the regulator, lube all moving parts and rubber channels with a silicone lube. if that doesnt help. you need a new motor.

How do I go about changing the power window motor on the passenger door of my 1988 GMC safari van??

You will have to remove the handle & trim & complete door panel. Once removed, there is an assembly that includes the motor and the regulator that has to be removed, be careful in just replacing the motor as usually they are both worn so much that it's just better to buy the entire unit. I found one on eBay for 139 w/free shipping.

Item # 310178555440, you can take a look at it and it will make clear what you are replacing if you do the entire assembly.

You're talking removing a few bolts and supporting the window to prevent it from slipping & getting broken during the repair. It can be a chore but I've done many with just a few tools & sometimes a drill w/bits to remove rivits. You may want to look at a vehicle specific manual that you could find at a local auto parts store, but if you do know how to remove the door panel, the rest shouldn't be too tough.

There is a complete step by step guide available at the auto-parts stores, some allow you to reference their manual on line by just giving an e-mail address & setting a password. (autozone & others)

good luck.

1988 safari 4.3 gmc. motor runs well in idle. on traffic lights and stops it starts to stutter

If it Idles well in park and neutral but shutters when you put it into gear then I would say the trans. torque converter is staying locked. You may want to try and flush the trans, replace filter and fluid.

I am having problems finding parts for a 1900 Pontiac Safari Station Wagon(ie: Radio, emblem, etc) what 1988 Pontiac model is the nearest to the Safari?

Safari VAN maybe? instead of wagon. Then you would be looking for Astro van by chev. The years are still going to be the problem, you will need to get as close as possible for the interior parts - radio and such. As far as exterior parts-? Oh I just re-read your years you have posted, you might want to correct that- I don't think they made a 1900 model :-)
