The proper way to troubleshoot a current drain is to disconnect one of your battery cables, and put an amp meter between the battery and the disconnected cable. Measure how much current is there, and then you can systematically pull fuses out of your fuse panel to see what circuit is drawing power. Some current is expected, such as the keep alive circuit for your radio, and a dome light if you have a door open.
You should be able to narrow down your search area, by your symptoms. If you have not had your alternator tested, do so, as sometimes they appear to be working, but have a current draw thru the voltage regulator.

To chase down a dead short like your describing you need to disconnect the positive terminal , with it off scratch it over the battery if theres a draw you will see sparks if it has a short somewhere . then take out fuses 1 at a time and test for a short / good luck . sounds like the unlock solenoid is stuck in the up position draining the battery . you can go to a garage and have a load test done on the battery to ensure the battery is good .otherwise sounds like a door panel needs to come off and find the problem. good luck

Common Problems That Trigger the P052 Code
  • Defective Alternator
  • Defective Alternator wiring or connector(s)
  • Defective B+ battery cable from Alternator to battery
  • Poor Charging System ground(s)
  • Defective PCM wiring/connection to Alternator
  • Defective PCM
  • Defective Voltage Regulator
  • Large Parasitic battery drain
  • Defective Battery and/or cables
Common Misdiagnoses
  • Battery
  • Starter
Check the condition of your battery cables - are they corroded/have broken wire strands? Also check where the negative battery lead attaches to the engine/bodywork.

Check all the wiring for breaks and tightness - a small earth wire can be loosened and retightened to create a better earth. Corroded power wires can struggle to supply the correct voltage - remove and clean whatever you can find.

It's unlikely to be your alternator as you say it has been checked - the voltage regulator is built into the alternator so it must be okay.

A parasitic drain can be difficult to find. Try switching off everything - radio, heater ... the next time you start the car. If you know somebody who has a voltmeter and knows how to check for a power drain .. ask them.

The link below shows a Saturn PCM (it may not be your actual model..). Check all wiring around the PCM

Something is draining the power I recommend you take it to a mechanic or a friend to be checked, hard to say what may be the problem without looking around.

Tip

Going through starters and alternators?

If you keep replacing starters and alternators, they aren't the problem. Starters: check your battery's ground cable.
Alternators: Make sure you're also replacing the rectifier circuit. Alternators make alternating current and it must be converted to direct current. This happens in the rectifier, and arrangement of three diodes. Diodes are like a one way street for electricity. But sometimes, they fail and leak backwards.
Then they quietly drain your battery overnight. It drives a lot of people nuts figuring that one out.

How do I know if I need a new starter or alternator is gone out the car won't start but the battery is good

if battery is good, then alternator is ok if battery has not be charged separated from when the car was last running. running a car on battery only, with bad alternator drains battery very quickly.

Battery keeps draining but tests good and is only 2 yrs. old. alternator and starter also test good.i charge battery and will run for the day then dies overnight.someone mentioned a loose belt? would there...

a loose belt will squeal. it is slipping. This is the alternator belt. its spinning the alternator just enough to give power. having a loose belt is dangerous, it can come off while driving, getting caught in something, or leaving you on the side of the road. you can get a friend to tighten the belt for you (sure you know someone that works on their own car). check the belt for over wear, or cracks or even a tear. Once the belt is tightened, take you care to the auto parts store, and ask them to check for the proper charging from the alternator. Most do this for free(I even do this at my shop), this is the best advise I can give you. hope this helps

Having trouble with starting, battery is down sometimes, but the battery was tested and is a good battery

Have your charging system checked. A good battery is like a bucket with a small hole in it. the water would be electricity (charge). Under normal conditions your alternator keeps the bucket full without overfilling. if the alternator isn't working it becomes low and won't start the car.
Also have your starter checked for excessive draw...In this case the starter is asking for more power than the battery has or can have. If you have a hand held volt meter you can do this testing yourself. If you need help with that just ask. Also, you may have something staying on in the car...there are tests for that as well.

My sisters 1996 lincoln continental sometimes starts sometimes wo

Definitely sounds like a starter. When a bad starter is cold, it will start the car. After riding around for a while or after several starts in a row, the starter heats up and won't start without a boost. Since you've ruled out the battery and alternator, I'm positive a new starter will solve your problem. Good Luck!
