SOURCE: anti lock brakes light

Good Day,

Usually that indicates bad ABS sensor or ABS component in the system. The quick fix is to locate the ABS fuse in your fuse panel, remove this fuse and abs is disabled. Your brake will function normal and it is safe to drive w/o abs until you can have it checked out, keep in mind you will lock you brakes under heavy braking conditions.

hope this helps

Would i need some new tires and/or brakes when my service vehicle soon, anti-lock and traction lights come on all at the same time

no, this means you have a fault code stored and you can get your car scanned at a local auto parts store. Once you get the codes then you can look into what is setting the fault.

Anti lock brake light and traction control light come on when starting car.

Typical issues to cause this fault would be:
1) Steering geometry is out and requires realignment.2) ABS sensor in hub is faulty.

2000 buick regal , track light on, anti lock brake light on???

You will need to take it to the GM dealer or any well equipped brake shop and have the system ABS/Traction Control system computer scanned, a fault has occurred in the system and at this time you have no Traction control or Anti-Lock brakes. When the lights were turned on the systems control module stored a code for the fault in the system. The ABS and Traction Control are one in the same system.

What does it means when the traction off light stays on and the anti brake light stays on? And I push the traction switch to on and it still stays on.

These two almost always come on both at the same time. It is almost impossible to make an assumption what the problem is without a diagnostic report. When one comes on they both come on. You can take the car to Autozone and they will run a diagnostic for free. This will help you narrow down what the problem is.

Traction control light is staying on all the time will not shut off even when pushing the tc button....what's the problem

Anti lock brakes and traction control are operated off of the axles, they will have ridges or splines on them for the sensors to read. They get rusty or brake dust on them. You need to wire brush them off and spray wd-40 on them. If not it would be an electronic sensor gone bad.

ABS light came on and also the Advanctrac light....says check ADVtrac.

There are many sensors on your anti-lock brake system, as well as on your traction control system. Sometimes one giving a signal will set off the other one. Unless you are can physically feel any symptoms, then a computer test is really the only way to tell what the problem is. Many auto part stores offer to check the computer, and many of those will do it for free. One you know what the computer says is wrong, you can have the problem repaired. You can still drive your vehicle, but be aware that it is highly possible that your anti-lock function as well as the traction control system may not work. The anti-lock keeps your wheels from locking up if you slam on the brakes. The traction control diverts power and/or uses the anti-lock brake system to reduce braking on a certain wheel. I would imagine that there is a problem with the anti lock brake system since it is used in the traction control system. Hope it turns out to be small!

ABS, Service Engine Light

This is normal for your anti-lock brakes to quit when the abs light is on.What you will need to do is retrieve the codes and then you can find out what part of the abs system is giving you the problem. This will also cause the check engine light to come on.You can post back and I can help you with the code or codes that are in the brake control module.Hope this helps.

Anti-Lock brake light and traction off light came on

U have most likely damaged a wheel sensor ring, in order to ID the one you damaged u will need to have the ABS/TRACTION CONTROL system tested for trouble codes, this will lead to the right area for repair.

TRACTION CONTROL.

that is what it is desgined to do - reduce acceleration and apply the brakes intermittently when the wheels spin. You have a switch you cn push to disable it. You need to disable each time you start car. See owner manual.

06-10: Traction Control 1996 Contour, Mystique Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Traction Control System The optional traction control system is designed to control wheel spin when accelerating on slippery or loose surfaces. Traction control system is available only with anti-lock brakes. The traction control system includes the following components:
  • Hydraulic control unit.
  • Throttle control actuator (9N825).
  • Traction control switch.
  • Traction control warning indicator.
  • Front brake anti-lock sensor (2C204).
  • Rear brake anti-lock sensor (2C190).
The traction control system operates as follows:
  • System functions by transferring torque from the spinning wheel to the wheel with the most traction.
  • This is achieved by applying the brake at the spinning wheel through the hydraulic control unit or reducing the throttle opening.
  • Traction control braking and throttle control occur at vehicle speeds up to 50 km/h (30 mph).
  • At vehicle speeds above 50 km/h (30 mph), only throttle limiting control is used.
  • If speed control is operating when traction control system engages the traction control system will disengage speed control through the use of a speed control relay. This action is the same as applying the brake pedal with speed control engaged.
1996 contour
Traction Control Switch The traction control switch is located on the instrument panel, left of the steering column.
