Question about 1998 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

My tranny makes a loud rattling noise when it is cold after it warms up it gets better but, under load it does the same. could this just be that it needs a fluid and filter change? The truck has 156,000 miles

Hi Does the noise increase / decrease / disappear in Neutral? Have you checked the fluid level? Are you sure its the trans and not the engine / drive shaft?

Hello, I have a 2001 chevy tracker with a 2.0 engine. It has a ticking noise after it warms up. during up shift at RPM's about 3000 it rattles like lifters, but go away after the shift. Some times

when oil is cold it is thicker and stays [on]coats metal as oil warms up it thins out and flows better[makes it thinner will hear ticking] sounds like a bad lifter or even camshaft lobe problem ,could also have a problem with a loose or out of adjustment rocker arm

Loud rattle noise started on cold start up but goes away. Now makes noise on/off throttle all the time.Sounds like cat internals or heat shield, inlaws have same car, same noise

Sounds like the Cat could be bad. Get under the vehicle and hit the cat with your hand. If it rattles then you know what your problem is, if it doesnt rattle then start check the belts and tensioners

I have a 2002 D5 with 150,000 on the clock. When cold there is not a problem however at about 2500 rpm under load and when hot it rattles. The noise goes away when the revs are increased or decreased. Its...

Sounds like the viscosity of your oil is not high enough for the mileage. My van has a loud valve rattle when it is low on oil or is in need of an oil change. I use I higher viscosity oil and a bottle of lucas oil stablelizer and it quites right up. This may not be the case for you. You need to isolate the noise. By isolating the noise it will give you a better idea of whats making the noise. Try using a mechanics stethoscope and find where the noise is coming from. It might just be time for your mechanic to overhaul your engine.

Your transmission is going to fail sooner or later, the whining noise you hear is the the clutch packs in the transmission going out.

2000 jimmy transfercase prob????

Have you check the fluid in the trans case? You might want to do that. Also, check your U-joints, and linkages. Make sure there is no play. If you are able, also when you start it up, try to locate the noise. You might get lucky, and find the problem. Hope all goes well.
