I have a 1992 mazda 626 with a manual transmission. In first and second gear the car lurches, but not all the time. When I start out in the morning everything is fine, but then the intermittent lurching begins. Once in 3, 4 or 5 everything is fine. There is a noise that I cannot discribe. Kind of a whirring sound, but not very loud.

I am not sure. I have had it almost two years, but I don't know what the service history is. Has 310,000 miles on it, but runs great up until the last week or so. Timing belt and water pump are new this past spring. I had thought about changing the plugs since that is an easy thing to do. I did notice that when I am at speed, say around 60 or so that occasionally there is a spit or small lurch and then it is fine.

gladys_neal, I changed the plugs and wires and that made a difference in the at speed performance. The lurching I am getting is in 1st and 2nd gear. You know how when you let off the clutch and haven't accelerated enough and the car jumps until you push in the clutch? I get that in 1st and 2nd gear. I did have someone suggest the fuel filter. I am getting an new air cleaner tomorrow. Any suggestions.

2004 Mazda 3 Transmission Issue???

Based on the symptoms you have described, it sounds like there may be an issue with the transmission in your Mazda 3. The loud clicking sound when shifting into reverse could be a sign of worn or damaged gears, while the hesitation and lurching in first gear could be due to a slipping or malfunctioning clutch.
It's also possible that there could be an issue with the transmission fluid, such as low or dirty fluid, which can cause shifting problems and other issues. I would recommend having a qualified mechanic inspect your vehicle to diagnose the exact cause of the problem and recommend the appropriate repairs.

Why would 3rd gear grind in a mazda 5 speed?

Get the transmission serviced, either a worn gear, bearing, or bad synchronizer.

Have a mazda 626 98' when i start up my car it's fine but when i take off about a mile or mile1/2 its starts to shifts like a jerking, almost like it wants to come out of gear, there is no noise before

I assume since you mentioned the throw out bearing it is a standard. It could be a clutch issue but it sounds more like the transmission is low or dry on fluid. Even a Standard has fluid for cooling and lubrication. In an automatic low fluid will cause shifting problems in a standard it's not so much shifting problems as it is wear on the gears and slipping.

The car worked fine, then when parking, I tried to put car in reverse, and nothing happened. I tried again and it lurched into drive, stopped and now will not go anywhere, not even roll. Reviewed the...

Did you notice if your speedometer quit working at the same time? If so, there is a glimmer of hope, it may be a vehicle speed sensor problem. Otherwise, it sounds like the trans just took a dump. Try shifting the trans into ALL gears (including 2 and 1) to see if that makes a difference.

check your transmission fluid, you can find this near the engine oil, it should be near by.

when you check leave it running for 60secs before checking and make sure it is on level ground.

2001 mazda 626 rpm going up to 4 before going into 2nd gear

the transmission and filter need to be changed quickly, the oil is most likely burnt and/or the filter is covered with funk, once those are swapped then your ride should cruise just fine.

Mazda 626 1992 2litre dohc timing case oilseal

there ar two oil seals on your vehicle one is located behind crankshaft pulley and the other is located at rear input shaft to transmission you will need to remove your crankshaft pulleys including pulley boss or transmission and flywheel and torque converter if automatic to change seals are fairly cheap and easy to remove just follow steps in repair manual from local parts store. Or take it to a shop lol.

Engine problem - 1992 Mazda 626 (V6)

Yes you can purchase a repair manual online if you like from this site, or local parts stores they run about $25.00 or so, and might consider either purchasing a OBDI diagnositc scanner or take it to a shop to save guess work. You can perform several tests to check properly such as compression test wet and dry or simple spark test, fuel pressure test and so forth all of the tests can be found in repair manual.
