Question about 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

My car will not start. It seems that there is no power getting to the ignition coil module yet the fuses are fine. Any suggestions?

You need to see if you are getting spak at the plugs, remove a plug wire and check for spark while someone cranks engine over,if you have spark, now you need to know that the injectors are getting fuel, you can check this at the reed valve on the fuel rail, you need at least 50psi

I require simple wiring diagrams for a 1976 F150 pickup.

Use a test lite on negative side of coil, engine cranking, the lite should pulse?
It appears the vehicle has electronic ignition, There is a separate ignition module. In the wiring diagram, I can't guarantee the wire colors. The older my wirings diagrams are, it seems, the less accurate they are. I hope it is readable, If no spark, I'd check the ignition system, Check fuses--fusible links--battery connections.

Starts fine one time and then refuses to start.

If this is a conversion from old points style to HEI modern style, the problem may be the resistance wire is still in the circuit, which should have been removed from the power circuit to the distributor.
If the ignition coil reads 12 volts to its 12 volts terminal, then you should replace the ignition module, furthermore, a pickup coil and sprocket can also be replaced from under the rotor but the distributor needs to be removed and disassembled to get to the pickup coil and sprocket. Some Fords don't need to be removed but do need some disassembling to replace all of its electrical components.

I don't have any power at the ignition coil on a 1987 wrangler, any place to start ? thanks

fuses are always first.
you said no power to the coil that means 12vdc power.
so hows car run with no power to coil no electric power?
ok, seems its , running good, then you lose engine power (not usage of word engine) then you find loss of 12vdc power to the ignition coil
you blew a fuse.
1987, carb engine
no engine stated, making any spark help near impossible
2.5L Vin H, TBI injection
4.2.L Vin C, 2bbl carb.
apples and oranges different (huge difference)

the 4.2 liter gets power from a ballast resistor.
on the yellow wire . the igntion switch feeds the this resistor
the green wire, goes to the ignition module.
this wire reads 12v key on, then when cranked, or running
the module grounds the green wire for about 5/1000s of second
and then release this ground making Inductive spark (Tesla action)
. that is how the 4.2 works.

so what engine.?? some have 4.0 engine. so???

check ignition coil see if its getting battery power check black and pink ignition wire going to ignition coil.if you not getting power check the 20AMP ignition fuse.if power going to ignition coil, problem could be bad ignition coil or bad ignition module or pcm problems, best have vechicle code scan for pcm fault or crankshaft position sensor or ignition module fault.

check ignition fuse to coil and check see if power getting to coil if yes ignition coil or ignition module faulty.if no power getting to coil and ignition module more likely you have blowed ignition fuse or faulty wiring from ignition fuse box terminal to the ignition coil and module.

Well it is 17 years old, many things could be bad. There is a hook up under the dash to connect an analyzer, that would be a place to start. There are two coils, under the coils is an ignition module, that could be bad.

check to see if you have an ignition control module. also check any fuses for ignition related items both in power distribution center and fuse block under dash. Don't forget to have codes read if possible It's a big help.
