The engine controller is telling you that one or more engine control sensors or actuators has failed.
The service engine soon light may be illuminated. In either case you should have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes to determine the malfunction.
Auto Zone will scan the vehicle for you at no charge or you can take the SUV to your favorite mechanic to have the codes read. Until the trouble code or codes is verified there is no telling what has failed. I would not wait too long as the vehicle could completely stop or no longer start for you.
