I would check the timing. Sounds like bent/chain failure to me. If it spins like nothing but the crank and rods/pistons are spinning, that's most often... because it is.

My xj8 Jaguar crank up and sets right back off what all could be wrong

Security is set. Could be one problem. Fuel system can do this, but rarely. Takes a scanner to see where to look first.

2001 XJ8 #1 cylinder misfire

I would start by checking to see if the signal is being pulsed to the coil and/or the injector. If those are good, check the compression.

flooded, common problem with the old nicosyl coated liner engines, bores worn out, no compression, check engine no,to see if your car is in the range.

When turning the key, there is a clunking sound but the starter does not turn the engine over. Already changed the battery and starter and can crank engine by hand.

Well, the battery and starter contacts should be good then, and the engine is free. I'd check the earth strap connections from battery to engine, and frame to engine or battery.

2000 Jaguar xj8 turn over won't start stability control fail light on.

the stab light comes on if the battery is low because you are cranking the engine your aj26 v8 engine may have a common problem for cars up to that model/year with worn nicosil coated bores ie. low compression check the vin no. at your jag dealer you can get it started by removing the spark plugs and putting a egg cup of engine oil in to each of the cylinders the first thing to do is to check for fault codes using a obd code reader for a clue followed by a compression test

2001 Jaguar XJ8L - Intermittant starting problem -gives Gearbox Fault & when you turn the key ,the engine does not start, battery good. I think It might be a wiring or switch problem. When the car does...

I had the same issue with my 2001 XJ8 and ended up having to have the car rewired from the engine to the battery. I was charged about $300 from a independent automotive electrician. Unfortunately this was after having a new starter and alternator installed! I was told that there were 2 or 3 service bulletins on this issue from Jaguar.

Good luck on this one, it's very frustating and had my car in the shop for about 3 weeks trying to figure this one out.

2001 Jaguar XJ8 Idles rough while sitting

o2 sensors often cause a rough idle at stand still. Previously my xj8 had crank case ventilation (pvc valve essentially) issues that caused the check engine w/ restricted performance. I noticed a severe drop in gas mileage as well. Jaguar dealer fixed my problems in a few hours and it was surprisingly cheap. Its worth taking it to advanced or auto zone to see what the computer says. Then decide if you want to shell out for a dealer fix or if you can tackle it yourself. BTW, just to justify myself this is my third jaguar. I have a '94 xj6 with a chevy 350 inside it, previously owned a 95 XJ6 and currently have the xj8. They are wonderful cars if you can put up with their rough times.

2001 XJ8 Vanden Plas engine light

I've had the same problem on my 2001. It turned out to be the battery. Apparently the voltage had dropped to the point that the computer began to malfunction. I'd first go to a battery shop and have it checked under load before looking for other solutions.
