I've had the same problem with my Avenger 3 times. It's not the shifter so don't waste your money on that. The problem is there is a switch on the brake pedal that needs to get replaced. When you press on the brake pedal it engages that switch so you can move it out of park. That's the problem. Only the dealership can replace. Good luck. It was a complete nightmare for me. I was left stranded 3 different times because of this stupid problem.

Your shifter assembly is broken. The best way to fix it is to get a new shifter assembly. You can get it from the dealer for about $45. If they do the install the total will be about $200. You can do the install yourself which isn't very hard. Just surf the web on what to do...kf

On the park brake there is a white box on the back of the box there is a black lever if the lever is tilted up then the park release will not work if this is the case then just tilt it down if that does not work then the box itself needs to be changed. to verify that the box is not working just turn key to on position {not start} press brake listen for a low click around the shifter itself if you dont here anything then that is the problem.this is only for dodges 06-09 that will start but wont shift out of park

Baring that you have pressed down the brake petal. You may have to have it towed to the dealership.

SOURCE: 2004 cavalier shift lever stuck

To check this out you must remove the shift handle by using a butter knife to remove a horseshoe clip facing the very front of the handles shank. Then remove the shifter plate to check the cables

How do you remove the shift knob from 95 olds cutlass supreme.so I can fix a stuck shift lever

some shift knobs have a lock nut under the knob . I usually looks like a chrome ring finish. Try turning it down to release the knob and undo the knob.

My key is stuck and car wont start

What has likely happened is your Shift Knob on your automatic SC300
is not releasing the Key.
Because it is not going 100% forward into Park.

You should remove the trim around the shift knob. Including the Knob.
The knob has a sleeve that slides down to reveal 1 screw that is facing the rear of the car.

You should have the metal shift shaft.
Wrap a rag around it and grab the top are and push forward with
a good amount of force. You need to slightly BEND the shaft forward.
Back into place.

Jeep wrangler 2005 automatic floor gear shifter is loose won't engage stuck in park

try pushing the knob down onto the shifter a little bit then try and shift. Sometimes if that knob is raised even a little bit it will be locked in park. Can't be 100% sure without seein it but worth a shot. Hope that helps you.

Shifter stuck in park selector light in reverse and in reverse, shifter wont move out of park

The SHiFT lock is broken or not pulling up when u disengage the reverse and PARK!
SHiFT LOCK is the one in ur SHiFTiNG KNOB, when u try to release the PAR or going to reverse u have to pull/press it!
The only way you could release and check it, is by dismantling the whole shifting console, and check where it is disconnected or go to the nearest garage to fix on that!
Hope that helps u out!

Gear shifter will not go into park

There is a plastic actuator stick under the shift knob. Remove the "horse shoe" clip from the shift knob and remove knob by pulling strait up. You can twist it right and left a very small amount to loosen the knob, but not much.
Once you have the shift knob removed you will see the plastic actuator stick. Push down on the stick and put shift lever in park. If that works, the shift knob or stick is worn out.
Let me know.
