Drain all power steering fluid and replace with dextronIII/mercon transmission fluid start the vehicle and turn the wheel back and forth from lock to lock bouncing the wheel against the lock about 5 times on each turn for about 5 minutes
if this doesnt work you are probablygoing to need a new power steering pump

My 2002 ford windstar 3.8L engine makes a grinding noise does not stay running and stalls out.

At 250k your camshaft bushes/bearings could be worn. Could also be poor oil pressure. I would check for that first

MY CAR MAKES NOISE WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL

It's probally low on power steering fluid. If you open the hood, look on the left side right over the passenger tire. Theres a resivore there for power steering fluid. Unscrew the cap and wipe the dip stick clean. Then put it back in and pull it back out and see how far up the stick the fluid reaches. Make sure you put it in all the way so you get an accurate reading. If its low, add some until it says full on the dip stick. then put the cover back on, start the van and turn the steering all the way left and then all the way right a few times. The noise should stop as long as that was the problem. Windstars and known for having power steering leaks so I am going to bet that is the noise your hearing. It's a low toned, whining noise if it is low on power steering fluid. Hope that works for you. Good Luck.

2003 Windstar: power steering noise...

you need to change the power steering filter first to see if it makes it less noisy, if that does not work then you mave have rack and pinion seals going to out. it could aslo be the power steering oil cooler or the lines colaspeing just change the hoses to the cooler it is not hard and costs 10 bucks for the hose.

Buzzing noise and it increases when turning

Sounds like your power steering fluid is low, you may have a power steering leak, look for fluid draining out of your vehicle, wet spots on the ground etc. The system can leak from the hoses between the pump and the steering rack, from the steering rack itself, from the pump itself. Check all of these items to determine which is leaking, you will have to fill the power steering fluid to find the leak. If this sounds like way too much, then take it to your favorite repair shop and have them take a look. Hope this helps, let me know.

My power steering fluid is black in my 98 windstar can anyone tell me what my problem can be??? power steering was making a funny noise when i checked the fluid it was very low and black i didnt see any...

You ran it low so It made the noises which was burning the fluid. Just add some more fluid. It should stop making noises but if it does you may have ran it too long without enough fluid

03 Windstar makes a whining noise when idling and turning. Sounds like it is coming from steering column. Power steering fluid level is good.

When you checked the power steering fluid level were there any indications of excessive foaming? There are three things that would cause a whining noise from the power steering. 1- low fluid (you checked that so that is not the culprit), 2- loose steering drive belt (you should not be able to press down on the belt more that about one inch between the steering pump pulley and the crankshaft pulley), 3- power steering pump bearing worn out.
