Question about 1993 Geo Storm

I have a friend who replaced his radiator and now the bottom has blown out of this radiator what could be the cause of this concern?

You have one of two problems. You are either over pressurising the radiator with a faulty radiator cap or you just got a bad radiator.

Hi there, after replacing coolant bottle my car leaking water a t bottom of car only when engine has been running for a while. Tried to bleed system but as soon as fan kicks in water bubbles out of bottle....


could be a blown head gasket. suggest getting a pressure test done at a radiator specialist type auto repairer . To confirm if pressure is building in your radiator system from escaping exhaust into the radiator system via a blown head gasket in engine.
Thermostat would cause over temperature not bubbles.

The temperature gauge goes up to hot if i have my engine idle for too long but regains it normal status as soon i drive for a while


check to see if the fan comes on if not check fuses if it comes on flush engine and radiator then change the thermastate this should cure the problem

Bad news is the air bubbles are actually exhaust gases entering your coolant, you have a blown head gasket, and or bad head, which is also the overheating concern.

Hello and welcome to FixYa! If you have overheating problem, it can lead to multipleissues. You may be running on low coolant that's why the vehicle overheats. Ifthat's the case, please add coolant and make sure that it sits on the rightlevel, too much coolant can cause overheating too for coolant will overflow. The vehicle may have a faulty or worn out radiator blowermotor that's why it overheats. If that's the case then you will need a blowermotor replacement to resolve the issue. If the radiator is clogged with dirt and rusts this issueoccurs too. The coolant doesn't flow normally on the cooling system if it'sclogged. If that's the case, I strongly suggest that you have the radiatorflushed to drain out dirt and rusts. If you think that the radiator served youenough then it's better to have it replaced. Please do check the radiator hoses, If you have worn outhoses it can cause coolant leakage which can result to overheating. A tiny holeis good enough for the vehicle to overheat. A faulty thermostat sensor can cause the issue too. If youhave worn out thermostat, the fan may not trigger that's why the fan won't workwhen under stressed conditions. A blown radiator blower fuse can cause thisissue too so I suggest that you check the radiator blower fuse and replace itwhen necessary. What causes the radiator blower fan fuse to blow? It's becauseof a failing radiator blower motor, If that's the case have the radiator blowerfan motor replaced. If the fluid in radiator doesn't circulate then it meansthat you have a blown head gasket or a faulty water pump. I suggest that you gofor the water pump replacement first specially if you think that it's near theend of it's service life. Usually caused by a blown head gasket. Open the radiator cap and start the engine. Make sure the system is full of coolant and keep it full as the engine warms up. Once it's warm and the thermostat is open, allow a couple minutes for any air to bleed out. If bubbles continue to come up the radiator, your head gasket is blown. If you aren't getting bubbles, the problem may be a clogged radiator. Look to see if the coolant is flowing in the radiator. If you have more questions, please let us know.

Have oil in my radiator fluid reservoir tank. Let a friend due a tune-up on car and i gave him a pcv valve to put on car he put it on the left valve cover in rear (if looking at car) in my book it shows...


someone has just reversed the valve covers swapped them from one to the other as far as the oil concern, sounds like you either have a leaking trans cooler in radiator or you have a blown head gasket

Is there any oil in the water or mayonnaise under the oil filler cap? If so, I'm afraid you probably have a blown head gasket. The hole being blown in a hose is symptomatic of that I'm afraid. As I've posted elsewhere, if it's a T5 then it's much, much easier to get a secondhand engine & change it over rather than change the gasket (in any case, it can turn out to be a damaged head rather than/as well as the gasket).

If not then check the water pump itself.

To check the radiator, disconnect the top & bottom hoses; connect a garden hose to the bottom hose (gaffer tape is your friend :) and turn on the tap. Pretty obviously, if water doesn't gush from the top outlet, you have a blockage - try more water pressure (not a pressure washer!), you may clear it :)
