Sometimes you can rent tools from Autozone or Oreillys and get your money back when you return the tool.
What you want is a radiator pressure checker. With this tool you can pump up the system and the antifreeze will leak out of any hole or hose. You can do it on a cold engine and diagnose the leak safely. It can be something simple like a heater hose clamp or a leaking intake manifold.

Windstar coolant leak

Could be a cracked head and the leak is internal. The coolant is going out the exhaust. Soon the O2sensor will be no good. Try looking under the car for a cold water leak first thing in the morning or just after the engine reaches out side air temp

2003 windstar 3.8 liter leaking water from flywheel area. started this after very cold night with no antifreeze. any idea what the problem is?

Quite possible that you may have a cracked cylinder head or engine block. Just going to have to investigate further and hope its something a little less catastrophic, Like something on the heater system running down

Antifreeze leak cant find the leak but can smell it burning when engine is running

head gasket problems are common on this vehicle. but coolant can leak from quite a few different locations on your vehicle. the only way to find it is to look for it.

I have a 2002 Ford Winstar with codes 171 and 174. I can hear an air leak when i turn the wheel off center either way. It also occasionally idles very rough and tries to stall unless I give it gas.

you have the issolate the vacume leak, the 171 is almost always so, the other thing is the mass air flow sensor, turn the engine on and let it run and unplug the MAS if the engine performance improves you got it, plug it back in to see the difference, if unplugging the MAS does nothing, check for leaks in the vacume often the are near the PVC valve

it sounds like the heater core. look for a wet floor board on passenger side. in the meantime, keep your overflow bottle full & climate controls off when driving van in this condition untill fix.

2001 Ford Windstar is leaking antifreeze

Could be water pump, radiator, freeze plugs, hoses, ect. try and isolate the area by putting a piece of card board down on the ground and line up what is above it. Garages use a pressure tester on the cooling system to see where the leak is. I would guess water pump,or small bypass hose
