They should be changed every 50,000-60,000 miles. In these cars it needs to be replaced early compared to others.

Was there a problem with the 2006 kia sportage timing belts

Timing belts should be replaced every so many miles OR time. What ever comes first. Check your owners manual. The common mileage is 60,000 miles. Time should be 4 years. If there is a fluid leaking into the belt then it should be replaced immediately and the leak repaired.

At what milage do i need to change the timing belt

Hello helenanddere: My name is Roger and I will help you. You did not say which motor is in your KIA so I will give you the specs on both motors.According to Autodata both the 2.0 and the 2.7 engines both have the same check and replacement intervals. KIA recommends check and replacement if necessary every 40,000 miles, which ever occurs first and replacement every 60,000 miles or 72 months, which ever occurs first.
This is a known INTERFERENCE motor. What that means is if the belt should break. Major internal damage will occur. Piston and valve damage is most likely to occur and be a major expense. Should you need further help, please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

When do you change the timeing belt

The manufacturer suggests replacement at 40,000 miles for severe service or 60,000 miles for normal service. This is an interference type of engine meaning that if the belt should break that engine damage can and most likely will result. Hope this helps!

When is the timing belt need to be replaced in a kia sportage 2005?

The books say every 60,000 miles for all but California cars which can go 105,000 miles. I recomend you bring it in to the dealer to change that belt it goes on your record as routine mait in the case something severe happens trans prob engine prob you are more likly to have those items repaired or replaced for free under warrenty because you show routine maitnance done. If not could void your warrenty all together and latter down the road with sever engine issues or trans issues you will foot the bill due to no mait record how ever if you insist on changing the belt your self go to www.kgis.com for step by step instructions. There is alot of detail to these belts including removing pullys engine mounts tensioners pluss knowing exactly where the cam is set after you remove the covers remember if you do the belt yourself one notch is out of time techs on that vehical after ward to reset the time can tell whether or not it was performed by kia or not.

Or use a long sturdy flatheat screwdriver to pry it out to loosen the tension. Tighten it, then slip off the belt.

Timing belt

The timing belt should be changed every 60.000 Miles (100,000 Km). If it breaks, you will have a LARGE repair bill to repair the bent valves.

If yours has 85,000 Miles on it, you're lucky it hasn't broken yet. Get it done ASAP!

Dealer is recommending a new timing belt on my 2005 Kia Sorento.

its at dealer cost if they dont do the work i think it voids the warranty...if you go to a private shop you should be able to get it done much cheaper.but may void the warranty if hey say they have to do the work
