Spray some starting fluid into the air cleaner if it starts then dies it is a fuel delivery issue ( bad fuel pump or the inertia switch has been tripped and must be reset) if it doesn't start it may be a crank sensor gone bad.

Testimonial: "What else could it be. I sprayed the starter fluid into the air intake and it started for a couple of seconds. Could it be a clogged fuel filter?"

SOURCE: car not starting, oil in

If you smell fuel in the exhaust the vehicle is flooding or there is no spark. If it is a carb engine, make sure that the choke is in and hold you foot flat on the pedal while trying to start, this will clear any flooding.

Why does it turn over but won't start?

You need 3 basic things to make an engine run. 1 Compression, 2 Fuel, 3 Spark. So start buy checking for spark, remove a spark plug and plug it back into the wire. Now touch the threads of the spark plug to metal ( a good ground on the engine) and then turn the engine over (try to start it) and see if you have spark? No spark find the problem. If you have spark now see if you have fuel getting to the engine. You can try pouring a little fuel into the carb or throttle body and then see if the engine will fire or try to run. If it tries to run or fires you have a fuel problem. You need to find out why it is not getting fuel. Spark or fuel, 90% of the time are the main causes when an engine will not run. I hope this gets you started. Rod

Engine will not start after driving through puddle

Pull off spark plug wire and take out spark plug any hole will do. Have an assist to turn over engine and then watch the spark plug to see if it has spark. Make sure the spark plug is in the boot good. Also make sure spark plug it touching the engine to get a ground.

I have a 2000 kia sportage that cranks but will not start what might it be?

When en engine won't start, there could be a number of things wrong. An engine requires air, fuel, and spark to start. You need to start by checking for spark. Take out one of the spark plugs and plug it back into the wire. Have somebody else turn the key while you hold the plug up to something metal on the engine, right next to the spark plug hole will be fine. You should see a bright blue spark, if you don't then you probably need to replace the spark plugs. You can do this same thing with any of the spark plugs. If you don't have spark on any of the plugs, get back with me and we'll go from there.

I have a 98 grand am blew a head gasket, ive had the heads reworked and new gaskets now the car doesn't start, just turns over. what could be the problem?

Check if you have spark at the spark plug. Go buy yourself one plug. Take any plug wire off plug in engine. Attach plug wire to new plug and touch a ground on engine with new plug threaded side. Have someone start engine and watch for spark. If spark exsist, look for fuel problem.

MY 1993 nissan sentra xe car will not start. it just did not start the day i tried to start it. i tried cleaning the distributor cap and wipping it out. i also disconnected the hose from the fuel filter to...

Hello, the next step is,you must take out one of the spark plug, after removing it then connect it to the spark plug lead. Now you must lay the spark plug against the cylinder head ,hold the spark plug by the spark plug cap.By then you must get some one to start the engine, and you standing in front of the bonnet, you must see between the gap of the spark plug,if it gives a good spark. How will you know if it gives a good spark?I will tell,if the spark is blue now you know it is good, the engine should start if it get fuel, the mixture will burn well, but if the spark is well yellow, the engine will never start, that means you must change the spark plug.Hope that help you.

Hi i have a 90 mod rx7 turns over it has spark its got new plugs it has new battery and is getting fuel but still wont start what can you sujest could be rong with my car

Take a spark plug out, reconnect it to the spark plug wire and check for spark at the plug. Repeat as many spark plugs as you can. If you're sure it's getting fuel, you'll need to do a compression check, or make sure the tiiming is still correct. By the way what test did you do to determine fuel delivery is alright.

Wont start

Hi,
You can pull a plug wire end from a plug and either put a spare plug in the end, or remove one of your plugs from the engine. Just lay the plug onto the engine... don't hold it... ha
Have someone turn the engine over and observe for spark at the end of the plug.
This will at least determine if you're getting spark. Good luck!

Engine is not running

Looks like u better find a ride to work. U need spark and gas for the car to run. When u turn the key, does the engine turn over? If it does, u should check to see if there is spark at the plugs. Remove a spark plug wire, remove the spark plug (if u have an extra plug, just plug it into the removed wire) place on nearby metal surface, turn key, watch for spark at tip of plug. If u see spark, check to see if gas is getting to spark plugs. After several attempts to start, you should see gas (wet) on plugs. Let me know what u find
