2002 volvo s60, corroded, terminated tube coming out of engine. My car has a rough idle and occasionally stalls when put in park or at stop lights. Here is a picture of the tube: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/imagehosting/1445394b1c4dcf2c5dd.jpg Is the problem related to the tube? Where do I get a replacement for the tube?

Resetting computer on volvo s60 2002 after battery replacement

I had this problem on my 02 s60 after messing with the battery. The problem is that the computer is stupid and "forgets" how to manage the car if it completely loses power.

To retrain it you basically just drive the car. I've seen several sets of instructions but here's what works for me:

1. Start the car and let it idle until warmed up.
2. Using moderate throttle (don't floor it) get the car up to highway speeds.
3. Slow down to a complete stop.
4. Repeat 2-3 a few times if you're so inclined.
5. Done!

Skipping the highway part will work too, however, I've heard it can take much longer to retrain the computer (weeks to months depending on driving habits.)

2002 Pontiac gran prix engine stall while stopping, then it will restart but runs really rough like its misfiring, but then whn givin any gas or shifted from park or neutral it dies again.

Please include engine and mileage to help with answers. There is a sensor in the tube connecting the air box to the throttle body. Map, mass air flow sensor. It is delicate and pricey. The auto parts has a aerosol can of cleaner for about 8$ designed to clean this part. Carefully remove it from the tube housing and spray it off with the cleaner. This cleaner will attack the plentum and tube melting it causing air leaks if you use it in the tube. On a 3800 If you have coolant leaks or seeping check the plenum it may need to be replaced if it has not already been. They have a new style that is reinforced. This should smooth out the idle and clear up stalling if it's dirty. Air leaks can also cause an unstable idle and stalling at stop signs. Anti freeze can turn corrosive and should be changed. I change mine about every 3 or 4 years. Make sure if your engine contains aluminum parts ( block or heads) that you use the correct antifreeze when refilling or adding to existing levels. Green or orange. Read the label to make shure the product is correct for your car.

01 s60 t 2.4..car was driving fine. Got home, it sat for about an hour. Went out to start it and it idles rough and doesn't have any power won't go over 20 mph. sounds like it is trying to stall when...

Sounds like your fuel pump is giving up! Or maybe some bad fuel! Did you fill up before parking up or is the tank low? Maybe the pickup filter or line filter is blocked!

I get a warning message, "HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURE-STOP ENGINE" from our 2002 S60 Volvo upon starting. The check engine light also comes on. The electric fan come on and runs for approx. 2-3 minutes....

Mine is doing the same thing. I have taken it to the shop and the mechanic can't find anything wrong with it. When he resets the diagnostic, the car runs fine for a few days then it happens again. I'm thinking it is something due to the cold temps here in NW Iowa. It is obviously not a cold weather car!

S60 Auto my problem is the engine surges when at idle

Hi, I had a similar problem. It's caused by the throttle position sensor. Your car may also go into reduced performance a.k.a. 'limp mode' after a while. Disconnect the negative terminal (-) on your battery overnight and reconnect it. It sorted out my problem.

My 1998 Olds 88 has been stalling and running rough.

Check and clean the IAC valve. Idle Control Valve. Use brake cleaner or carburater cleaner . Remove the duct work from the air filter assembly. It is located just inside . Run the engine at 1200 rpms and spray the valve. The valve can also be removed and cleaned.

Volvo S60 sensor ?

Sounds like an oxygen sensor (there are two). I had a recent problem where I had a rough idle and my S60 continued to stall out. Turned out to be the rear oxygen sensor. After replacement, car idles nicely and car drives normally.

2002 sequioa sudden stall

Often when the battery is disconnected or replaced the computer will lose it's learned idle settings. You could try letting the engine idle in park until the engine temperature comes up to normal and leave it like that for a few minutes, then put the Air con on and let it idle again for a few minutes, then switch the air con off and put it into drive. If it does not stall, let it idle in drive for 2 minutes or so, and then do the same with the Air con on. This should relearn the base idle settings and stop it from stalling on you. Before you carry out this procedure you should make sure that when you replaced the battery you didn't remove any other plugs or knocked anything that may be causing the fault. If you try this procedure and it still stall when you select drive, you will need to get a Mechanic to check the vehicle over.

Hope this helps,
Mark.
