Driver's Side Rear Window Comes Down On Its Own and won't go

I have a 2000 GrandPrix. The driver's side rear window comes down on its own. After taking the door panel off I realize that the motor works but ony one of the tension cables move. One is loose and one is very tight. It appears that the motor is strong enough to move the window down( due to gravity ofcourse) but not enough to move it up. How do I get the window to stay up?

Now that I have the rear window regulator w/ motor, how in the heck do I replace the old one with the new one? Is there a step by step guide? I have the plastic panel off but I'm not sure how to remove and replace the part.

You will need to replace the window regulator. You should beable to purchase a aftermarket one at autozone or advanceauto parts.

The rear windows on my '04 Saturn Ion won't open from any of the controls.

Rear Passenger Power Window Operation
The rear passenger power window switches receive battery voltage through the window lockout control circuit if the window lockout function is disabled. Ground for the rear passenger power window motors is supplied through normally closed up and down contacts of both the rear passenger power window switches and the driver power window switch. When the either rear passenger power window switch is placed in the down position, the power window motor down control circuit is switched to 12 volts and is applied to the down side of the rear passenger power window motor. Since the other side of the rear passenger power motor is connected to ground through the normally closed up contacts of both the rear passenger and driver power window switches, the window travels down. By placing the rear passenger power window switch in the up position, the polarity of the power window motor is reversed and the window travels up.
The rear passenger power windows can also be controlled from the driver power window switch.

Did you try pushing the lock out switch on the drivers master switch ?

2002 gmc envoy windows roll down and up by themselves

The power windows on your vehicle are controlled by an electronic control module , as are the power mirrors !
Power Window System Components
The power window system consists of the following components:
• Driver door module (DDM)
• Passenger door module (PDM)
• Body control module (BCM)
• LR power window switch
• RR power window switch
• Window up and window down relays in each of the rear passenger window switches
• Window lockout switch
• Reversible power window motors in each of the doors (circuit breaker protected)
• LT DOOR CB 25A (System power for left rear window)
• RT DOOR CB 25A (System power for right rear window)

Your best bet , take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop.

Rear windows won't go down

You also have Circuit Breakers for your windows, Or your Master Switch ,You can Test the Driver Control Switch or the rear switches by removing the Switches and using the connector Plug and a Jump wire try jumping accross the wires,if they go up or down you could have a Bad Switch,if nothing moves more than likely your Window Motor is bad. BUT first CHECK your Circuit Breakers ,It could be Labeled as accessery Relay or circuit Breaker.

The driver's side rear window problems

You will need to replace the window regulator assembly. Both of the cables should be tight. When is loose its because it has broken in the regulator. The cable regulators are a poor design.

Windows go down but won't come up

either the window seal is putting to much pressure on window, but most likely the window motors are wearing out.
This always happens when motors wear out. They will go down fairly easy, but don't like to go up because of the pressure of the seals on a weakening motor, they strive/struggle to move up

Power window control

So as not to be repetitive, for the failure of your power driver side window and rear window, review this handy diagnostic article, which identifies the possible causes, from a bad fuse, relay to window motor, etc.:

This should help narrow down your particular cause.
