Hi catlowe, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
It is an electric motor. Google 2004 ford explorer blend air motor replacement. Usually the blend air door has become warped and is dragging. Texas heaters makes a SS replacement door, very easy to install. Good luck

Sounds like the blend door. Unfortunately it is under the center of the dashboard. When you get to the point where you are removing the lower plastic framework under the dash, just cut the plastic between the two screws under the driver's side bottom, that way you do not have to remove the entire dashboard.

SOURCE: temp control switch does not regulate temp i get heat on all settings except max ac

switch prolly not bad but you might wanna look into your heater control valve. valve not closing and letting the hot coolant fill your heat exchanger rather than recycling it back to the cooling system. The heat is over powering your a/c system and you're only getting a bit of cooling when you have the a/c on max. try it out

SOURCE: * * * Removal of Interior Trim Panel * * *

There are 2 finish covers on each side, looks like the one on the left is directly over ash tray?
You have to remove these 2 covers and there will be a screw located there. Remove these 2 screws remove the upper center finish panel by pulling outward to release the panel retaining clips.

SOURCE: 1983 ford ranger 2.2 engine-no heat,full of

it may only be a blockage in your radiator. but first, shut engine off! open hood, grab radiator fan,the one with all the blades, try to move it up and down or side to side. no fluid comes out? is there alot of play in the fan? if so,bad water pump.i'm not saying the plastic fan moves back and forth,it should. do you feel or hear metal moving, banging? if so bad pump.looking for the heater acuator? ok open hood, passenger side under the passenger side wiper, look further down under wiper at dash panel. you'll be looking for a plunger type assembly that operates on vacum. the hose[vacum] connects directly to an inlet thats close to where it's located. BUT in older models, which i'm not sure, you fall right at the brink when they changed models. look under dash, passenger side.you may have to drop glove box down, simple,on each side at top of the glove box grab left @right side of glove box, pull both sides inwards towards middle, that will let glove box drop down, look for heateracuator there, you may have to even move it by hand, look for a round cylinder type object with a rod attached to it.push the rod inwards[towards drivers side] and heat should flow.if you have to prop it open[think cowboy]wooden stick, whatever it takes to keep you warm,it dont matter! hope this helps

Why won't my heater blow hot air? It has coolent in the radiator. It has a strong air flow. It is just not hot air.

asked here 1000 times, and answered as much.
same answer on all fuel based engine water cooled.
you posted with no car told at all, or year 10,000 models of cars
there are 3 things here, in the world of heat ex-changers
basics 101
the engine coolant is be fully hot, 180f up, not less ever.
or is hot and the 2 heater core tubes are both 180f hot.
IR gun temp gun solves this is seconds flat;.
if one tube is cooler (lots) the core water path is gunked up clogged inside.(flashing it 1 cure)
ok all that is 180f+
next #3 the heater core mode damper valve is 100% closed(stuck)
and blocks all air flow though the core making the core useless
that is the physics of it.
some cars have dual damper that send hot air left or right or rear.
so one side can fail on if dampers to it fail.
the damper is called blend door damper valve it is a crude air valve.
just like the valves in my home HVAC with 4 zone valves
the service manual covers how to test the valve.actuator
by seeing it fail to swing fully or is dead
the remove this actuator and hand turn the valves hinge pin.
you can turn it and get full heat.
there are exceptions, like leaves or insects build nest there and block this air path. (cowl vent down in fresh air mode allows that)
we do all the tests in the service manual , why not read it?

2009 jeep patriot not heating up properly

its a heat exhanger.
1: the water is not 180F or more.
2: the water is not flowing through the core
3: or the air cant pass through the core.
bad water temp,. bad flows, or the damper is in the wrong position.

i plug in my scan tool and the ECT reads 180f or more. holding
cool real hot water.
i then feel both water lines to the core (dial set to hot)
both are hot, if not , the core is plugged or the water valve (if present)
is clogged.
ok both lines 180f roasting hot, finger test or better IR pyro gun.,
must be damper stuck blocking core, or huge mouse nest inside.

if the core is hot, we check damper controls
there are 3 systems, and some cars have a mix
open FSM to HVAC section,, bingo there you go...
cable, vacuum servo and damper motors.
some are a mix. min 04 is mix. my jeep 08 is vacuum
my 96 is cables.
id dont matter,. there is a simple test for each
the motor kind are the hair pulling kind, (invisible)

http://www.fixkick.com/AirCond/heater.html

i went online
the patriot has at least 2 cables, blend./temp, and mode
so there is water valve, so he damper if open on temp you get
full heat, just eyes on that lever ,cable and end of cable tells
you if the door is opening.

1998 jeep wrangler blows out cool air

you can answer the valve question your self. just look, at the 2 hoses
to the heater core. its there, or not.
the 1998 is here.
see cooling and HVAC sections, as i see , (no engine stated)
there is no valve in the engine bay.
page 7-2 , see that?
then see HVAC page.
if hot water flows thru the core. then the dampers are stuck (why takes tests)
car has 3 vacuum servos, they can be watched to see if each works
page 24-38 (chapter 24 hvac, end)

in an emergancy you can force any vacuum servo to do what you want with bailing wire or tie wraps.
force dampers to heat max. no recirc, and what ever direction you want. on cars with no hot water valve, (this car)
they have a heat damper, yours is stuck closed.
the H/C lever, moves this damper, open and closed.
make it so.

2005 Buick Cnatury-No cool air from the driver's side vents. Heat flows from vents when temp. lever is moved to hot. No problems with passenger's side vents. Does anyone have a damper diagram?

sounds like a trap not working or a motor mal fuction on the trap some doors have electric motors instead of vacume to open and close so you have to check on the pass side what opens and closes when in operation you can take the motor off and leave it pluged to test to see what it does you can get a new after market cheaper than the dealer

2002 toyota tacoma air damper doesn't seem to close all the way

Your blend door is actuated by the motor shown below. It is possible the door is sticking or the actuator has internal damage.
You would have to remove the heater to access the actuator...

Looking for the Heating and Cooling Vacuum lines.

First you need to find if it will switch through all modes, defrost, floor, etc... if that works, but temp does not change as commanded you probably need a new temp door actuator on that side. Assuming the vehicle has climate control.

Lexus 1991 LS400, has a new Thermostat but doesnt heat up

The thermostat is not the only issue to look at, you have a valve that opens and close water circulation through your heat core that could not be working, If your car is low on coolant the heater will not function, last but not least there is an electrically operated damper door than controld air flow over the heating and cooling coils to maintain a constant cabin temp. Also you have an interior temp sensor that tells the computer what the temp is so it can tell the damper door where it needs to be. The first thing is wait untill your car is cool and top off the antifreeze and burp the cooling system there should be a place somewhere near the thermostat for this purpose. Next check operation of valve in heater hose between heater core and engine, then check the damper dor for operation you may cn actually hear it if not you will have to locate it under your dash. I hope this makes sense to you, If you had a scanner you could probably tell what was happening and what wasn't working. If you need further info, for 20.00 at alldatadiy.com, you can get access to the professional service manuals for your car and every system on it. Merry Christmas! oh one other long shot would be a bad temp switch, just not as likely as the others.
