I have a 2005 Honda Civic, 30,000 miles, idling problems when in first or neutral. Idles randomly too fast, has been checked by mechanic and he could not find the problem, said there is no sticking. Slows...

sounds like airflow problem. try blow air and spray carburator cleaner to clear the passages from all ports leading to/coming out from the plenum. check EGR port for carbon buildup.

95 honda civic automatic will not shift into second

Hi there OK, I assume that the autobox is stuck in first and you have two possible problems. Firstly, the shift value in the shift value block is stuck thus continually selecting first gear, or the speed sensor within the auto box is seized. Both these problems is as a result of not having the gearbox oil changed as per the recommended service intervals. Firstly, identify the colour of oil on the auto tarns dip-stick - if it's black, you need to change the oil in the autobox. After you have done this, drive the car in first for a few miles to circulate the new oil and after the vehicle is at normal operating temperture, go as fast as you can in first gear. What this is doing is maximising the load on the speed sensor in the gearbox and by increasing the speed it might just unseaze and change into the other gears. The other thing to do is a stall test, but I suggest that you have a Honda Dealer do this. Best regards, Scottech
