There is the possibility that the pistons, valves or rods are damaged. When the timing belt breaks during operation, it frees the motion of the cam and some of the valves remain open instead of closing as they are supposed to "in time" and can actually cause the valve to strike the piston on it's upward course, respectively damaging the part(s).

Motor spinnig freely when trying to start like no compression in motor and wont start after timing belt was fitted wrong in a 1995 toyota landcruiser

if belt was not put on properly car wont run. if its improperly timed valves are opening and closing when they shouldnt be. which inturn will not ,ix air gas and timing spark. when belt is on wrong it will seem like no compression because valves are improperly working. belt must be put on the rite way for your car to run.

Timming belt broke from water pump broke while driving car put new water pump on n timming belt but car doesnt start right plus shakes doesnt sound right 2001 neon dodge

Sounds like timing belt not on correctly. Check timing marks are aligned correctly when installing timing belt. This vehicle should have 2-3 marks to be aligned when installing belt.marks should be on cam gear/ crankshaft gear and intermediate shaft if engine is equipped with it.

How do i change the timing belt?

This is a long process. The good news is you can do it without pulling the motor. THe bad news is you need 2 floor jacks and a set of jack stands to do that. You will need to go to Auto Zone and borrow the Chrysler Harmonic Balance pulley puller as that is the only special tool you should need to do the job. I highly recommend you get the Haynes Repair manual on this vehicle for this job. If that belt broke while the motor was running I will tell you know that you will need to have the head repaired because it will have bent every valve in the head assembly. After jacking the vehicle up and supporting both sides with jack stands you need to put a floor jack under the motor near the outside edge passenger side, Remove the tire and disconnect the lower engine support strut from teh motor then the upper support. After disconnecting and removing the belts remove the intake manifold, power steering pump, and supports then lower the engine several inches to gain access to the Harmonic balance bolt. Remove the bolt then use the special tool and insert to remove the Harmonic Balance pulley. Remove the timing belt covers and front plate that attaches to the upper motor mount arm from the motor, it's a tight fit, Remove the Valve cover and follow the proper removal sequence for the head bolts. DO NOT FORGET TO SET THE MOTOR TO #1 TDC BEFORE starting this job. Remove the spark plugs and lift the head off. (I assume you know to remove the wires and disconnect the radiator lines from the motor before starting.) Remove the remains of the old timing belt, realign the harmonic Pulley, place the head on and follow the bolt tightening sequence to torque it down correctly and align the cam pulley so that #1 valves are both closed and the #3 intake valve (the valve on the left) is open and the other valve is closed which should put the Cam Shaft key guide for the pulley at 12 o'clock. Compress the Timing Belt tension pulley with an allen wrench in the small hole and place the timing belt in place, release the tension arm. Put everything back in place reversing the order you disassembled them in and once everything is back it should start right up. I've done this 4 times on this model vehicle. Takes about a day and a half to get everything done if you can get the head back that fast. You really need the Haynes Manual for the Torque sequence and Torque settings for that head. Being Aluminum it breaks and bends very easy with you don't follow the right sequence. You will need a new Head Gasket, Valve cover seal, front seal and Intake Gaskets (There is one for each cylinder) Most of the nuts and bolts are 10mm, 12mm, and 11mm with a few 14 mm. I recommend sockets and 2 of each wrench with both open and box ends. The main bolt on the balance pulley is a 21 mm.

My car was running just fine all day long and then it just stop running while i was driving they tryed the cam senser and the crank senser but that was not it now they are saying its the cam belt its broke...

If a cam or better known as timming belt breaks in any engine, it will stop right then. re-time engine and install new belt and away you go, it is a bigger process then that, i just simplified it. the person who told you about blowing up engine is refering to weather or not your engine is free-spinning or not. you see as an internal combustion engine runs, pistons go up and down and valves open and close very fast and when belt breaks the valves stop moving and pistons keep moving, if motor is whats called free-spinning the valves and pistons dont touch if your engine is not free-spinning the pistons smack the valves and thats what will damage engine beyond just a timming belt. I do not know if your engine is or is not free-spinning. I would call a couple of enigne machine shops and ask them this question before you spend any money on towing or diagnostics.

I have a 1997 daewoo lanos1.5l single over head cam and broke the timing belt then the engine stalled so i replaced belt and set the timing marks. every thing was correct when set the crankshaft was top...

hi, just letting you know my timing belt just went on my daewoo lanos. unfortunately it seems in a daewoo lanos that when the timing belt goes, it can do damage to one of the valves. mine is in at the mechanics and i am still hoping that it hasnt done any damage. i was also told that if you have replaced the timing belt and the car still wont start it has definitely done damage to a valve. sorry to give you the bad news!!

Broken timming belt

You do need to get the cams lined up and the crankshaft at top dead center. Though, if the belt broke, you may have bent some valves because this is an interference fit motor, meaning that if the timing belt breaks, some of the valves are left open far enough to where the pistons come up and hit and bend them, so the valves are stuck open.

My aveo 04 manual wont start gets a spark ,fuel and replaced timming belt it was chewd up after car stalled on me in the high way but still wont start. gears also shift into place whats wrong?

If the timing belt became chewed up it would seem the belt/timing has slipped (do not try starting it like this bad things could happen) You'll need to replace the timing belt, tensioner and insure the proper mechanical timing is done for it to run properly if at all. If the belt failed at highway speed and it has a interference fit engine this would mean a valve or two may be bent too. I'd check the timing and once this is corrected I'd checking cylinder compression.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

Replace timing belt on Volvo S60

There is no room for error...... Zero clearance. If off one tooth it can and will bend valves. if you are one that just feels the need to get alittle dirty or just can't pay for the service, then get out your Haynes out and turn to .....Tune up, and look at replacing timming belt. Get a cam gear tool that locks them into place so as that they will not move when u have them lined up. make sure they are lined up with marks as said in book. then make sure crank as well as all marks are lined up acordingly. make sure belt marks are lined up with everything. i would reccomend using a volvo belt though cause it will have all the marks on it.However other company's make good quality belts also at a fraction of the price. So it is really up to you.
Good thing when doing timming belt is to also change out your timming belt tensioner. YES do this it will save you a engine in the long run. it is a moving part that will go bad, it will freeze up and snap timming belt. rip out teeth in thebelt and bend valves. So as a gen rule...When you change timming belt, Change belt tensioner at same time since you cant just change tensioner without changing or getting timming belt off. Remember to use your HAYNES. It is your friend and will save you money in the long run. Good luck... Hope this helps you.
