Abs warning light comes on and stays on whilst driving had abs system checked for codes comes up with no fault codes found. light cant be turned off until u switch off the engine and turn back on again. had sensors checked all ok.

The Vauxhall Astra ABS warning light will illuminate yellow for a few seconds after the ignition has been started to self-check. The system will be operational when the light extinguishes. On vehicles equipped with antilock brakes (ABS), a second warning light is provided to warn if a problem occurs within the ABS system. The ABS lamp comes on when the ignition is turned on for a bulb check, then goes out after the engine starts. If the ABS warning light remains on or comes on while driving, it indicates a fault has occurred in the ABS system.

What happens next depends on the nature of the fault. On most applications, the ABS system disables itself if the ABS warning light comes on and remains on.

Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

When this light stays on it is warning you that the ABS control module has sensed a fault in the ABS brakes,it has turned on the light and disabled the system. What you must do now is have the ABS system module scanned for fault codes, then based on the code or codes the proper diagnostics are done and the problem parts replaced or wiring repaired.

On occasion an ABS light will come on when a brake light is out. So check your brake lights first. Your ABS light is on because there is a malfunction in the ABS system. Is your brake warning light and your ABS warning light both on? This would be an indicator of a major malfunction in the ABS system. Stop driving the vehicle and fix this immemorially. If only your ABS light warning light is on this will not effect normal braking but the ABS system is disabled while the ABS warning light is on. You still need to have it repaired but you still have brakes for the moment. Now the code for this fault will be stored inside the ABS memory module. So you pinpoint this with scanner. T/C light = Traction Control

Could be something going on with a wheel speed sensor. You'll have to have the ABS/TCS controller scanned for any stored trouble codes to see why the controller is turning on the light. The code(s) might help you to determine what part of the system is faulting. You'll have to take it to a shop that has a high end scan tool.

If the TC light is on, chances are there is a trouble code set and stored in the computer. You need to determine what the code is. If you take the car to a nationally recognized parts store, most will scan the computer for free, so there is no money out of pocket for you.


Actron also makes a ABS code checker called BrakeScan. Don't know how good it is, but it might be good for a DIY person.

If your vehicle is equipped with the Enhanced Traction System (ETS), this warning light should come on briefly as you start the engine. If the warning light does not come on, then have it fixed so it will be ready to warn you if there is a problem.
If the warning light stays on, or comes on when you are driving, there may be a problem with your Enhanced Traction System and your vehicle may need service. When this warning light is on, the system will not limit wheel spin. Adjust your driving accordingly.
The Enhanced Traction System warning light may come on for the following reasons:
• If you turn the system off by moving the shift lever to FIRST (1), the warning light will come on and stay on. To turn the system back on, move the shift lever back to a position other than FIRST (1). The warning light should go off. • The warning light will come on when you set your parking brake with the engine running, and it will stay on if your parking brake does not release fully. If the transaxle shift lever is in any position other than FIRST (1) and the warning light stays on after your parking brake is fully released, it means there is a problem with the system. • If the traction control system is affected by an engine-related problem, the system will turn off and the warning light will come on. If the Enhanced Traction System warning light comes on and stays on for an extended period of time when the transaxle shift lever is in any position other than FIRST (1), your vehicle needs service.

ABS ( anti lock brake system ) either you have a fault in the system or it registered that it lost traction whilst braking, maybe in the ice ? If there is not a fault with the system, it should go off after a few metres driving above 20kph, if it stays on , then it would be wise to go and get it checked at the dealer, hope that helps

sounds like the usual ,one of the ring gears on the drive shafts has come loose
