My 1996 maxima has a button on door to pop the trunk... the button still seems to work.. in that it is clicking.... but the trunk will not release and the key itself has not worked in the trunk for a long time.... I believe the trunk was slammed shut too hard and jammed the lock... I have an arm rest in the back seat which does give minimal access to trunk.... if I reached into the trunk with some object is there a way to release the trunk lock manually from the inside?

The release bar on the left hand side of the driver's seat controls both the gas door and the trunk. Push down on it for the gas door release, pull up on it for the trunk door release.
So your trunk release button on the dash dpesn't seem to open the trunk. Does your key fob button open the trunk? yes....then could be problem with switch but read on. no......are your power door locks not working as well. not working.....check fuse, on 2001 Focus the fuse is a 20amp number 63 on the back of the fuse panel under the dash. Pop cover off and undue the rwo screws. hold plastic retainers and pull off the fuse panel from metal frame. pull fuse panel down toand turn over so you can see the fuse.check fuse. blown? yes.......replace fuse with good one. test all door locks open/close then check fuse...if its blown the problem is something to do with the door lock circuits. if the fuse is still ok...try pushing the trunk open button. fuse still ok? then I am a loss toas to whats the problem but if the fiuse blew when trying the trunk button your problem is the trunk latch circuit. Now if the trunk latch button is popping the fuse then disconnect wiring to trunk latch (in trunk) and try the button again. Still blowing the it is the electrical before the trunk latch unit. If it did now blow the problem is something to do with the part of the circuit you disconnected. How to go farther and find the problem exactly is not covered in this answer. You have to take it from here. JAG
I'm having this problem with my 2003 nissan maxima. I keep the driver side door open and keep my hand at the edge where the fuel door hinge is, and reache the button with a screwdriver or pen, and as it press the button, I push on the fuel door panel and it comes out. I'm going to replace the fuel door sooner or later. It all looks kinda dumb at the gas station.
the trunk release button has a little metal like a hammer that hits the trunk lock to release if bent will not open or if you disable it by pushing it down to disable trunk release button the key lock is frozen will not work even if key go's in normal. need to replace it. if u need to get in your trunk and if it is empty would be easy to do just open the middle part of the back seat panel and with a thin and sturdy stick and flash light can hit the little hammer to open it . hope it helps
Two ways...#1, naturally the key. the second way this, the 1991 Maxima has a lever on the left side of the drivers side seat at floor level. Simply pull up on the lever and it should pop your trunk. Goood Luck! I hope you find this very helpful!
cable knocked loose and key wouldn't work if it did previously. last option, obtain acess from back passenger seat and pull aux cable or force lock open, as far as the key issue, call a locksmith
Actually, this car has security system that prevent the trunk opened without using the master key. I often use this to lock my trunk. Just slid up the tiny lever upward to allow the trunk open from inside. the lever is on the back trunk (in the center, behind the Tail light) where the trunk door hook up with the lock system. Cheers..
