You will have to shove your hand between the firewall and the front of the engine to reach the reservoir. I suggest checking it when the engine is cool.

drain raditor fluid then take off upper and lower hoses and put your house water hose in lower raditor hose and turn on water and let run for about 5 mins. to flush out raditor. then run in top hose to flush back then lower hose again. that should clean it out.
contaminated with what? if it has had something other than brake fluid added yes it can get expensive would need to be flushed out and probably calipers and wheel cylinders replaced master cylinder replaced anything with rubber seals would need to be replaced
could be a vacuumn device in the heater system itself, or a thermostadt problem just above the water pump, unless you have more than minium experience with repairing autos, take it to a good mechanic, should be less than $100 fix.
