Yes most likely you have a constant velocity joint that has started to self destruct. You have 4 of these in the front, 1 on each end of the 2 front axles. The most common failure is the outside joint by the wheel, because it turns sharper with the wheel an therefore has more wear. It is often cheaper to buy remanufactured axles from O'Reilly's, Autozone, Car Quest etc, and just replace the whole axle at once. The labor is usually about 11/2 hours a side to take care of this. You don't need to do both axles unless you have a very high mileage car and just want to be on the safe side. Call around and see what a shop will charge you to install the axle. You can buy your own at one of the places mentioned and save the markup the shop will add to the part. You will have to return your old ones (cores) to the store for credit of your deposit (core charge). Look for prices or the complete remanufactured axle to be about $40-$65. Labor varies in the range of $50-$90 an hour. Dealers charge considerable more.

it sounds like either the wheel bearing is going bad or it might be the cv joint
