MY 2002 CHEVY MALIBU HAS A BEEPING NOISE IN THE DASH BOARD (divers side) WHEN IT STARTS UP NOW, WHY IS THAT? I bought a new gas cap with a lock. The local store had a guide which said I could use that cap. I tried putting back the orginal gas cap. No beeping noise when I drive, but when the car is parked the beeping comes back.

Look on the bottom-left side of the interior fuse compartment; there is a fuse labeled "Stp Lps" (stands for Stop Lamps). Grasp the fuse with the fuse puller; pull it straight out.
Are there any indication lights on? For Example, check engine light, low washer fluid light, abs light. If any of those are on afetr the car has turned on, that could be the case.
If the engine starts and then quits when you release the key to the ON position it could be the anti-theft systemhas locked out. Turn your key to the ON position and wait ten minutes until the ANTI-THEFT light on the dash board goes out. The car will now start and run if that was the problem.
