Hello.
The ignition module is mounted under the ignition coils.Just follow the ignition wires from the spark plugs to the coils.
The coils need to be removed from the module. There are two wire connectors to be removed as well.
The setup is similar on both engines available in the SL line that year.
Look at the coils carefully for burn marks from a possible errant spark discharge as this can damage your new module.Replace as necessary.

SOURCE: how do i test a ignition module on 2003 saturn vue

First thing is to check for codes which would indicate if you have an ignition module issue, a crank sensor issue or possible a PCM issue. If you do not check for codes first you will create new ones and then determining the problem will be alot more difficult.

What is an engine control module on a 1993 saturn sl

Can you clarify a little better . does not crank ??? As when you turn the key to the start position nothing happens ? The starter does not engage an spin the engine ? Control module has nothing to do with that . Park neutral safety switch maybe, ignition switch possibly, main B+ cable from battery to the starter solenoid. If you would look at a wiring diagram to see what all is involved in the starting system on your vehicle an testing the starter electrical circuit's . Doing voltage drop testing on the starter main B+ circuit .. Starter Voltage Drop Don't keep changing out the starter , that is not it. Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model and engine size. Under system click engine ,then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button then the blue link. Now look at the wiring diagram ,DO YOU SEE A CONTROL MODULE any where on that diagram ??????

Car starts and runs. Once it's warmed up, the engine shuts off tried to start it again motor turns over but will not start. Wait a couple of hours then the motor will start again and then will shut off...

Wouldn't think sensor or computer problem , more likely an ignition module . When it dies pull a plug wire an check for spark ,i think you will find no spark . Just from my 30 years of diagnosing GM vehicle's this has been the #1 cause of a start an run till warm an dies an wait 20 min . to an hour an it starts again problem. But without testing to know for sure that would be a guess . Having a qualified an certified repair technician diagnose the problem is always the best idea.

Cant tell if ignition module is bad, how do you tell if engine is DOHC or SOHC

Should be the DOHC. It will say Saturn 16v on the valve cover. Auto Zone can test the control module.

'99 Saturn SC1 with intermittant check engine light P0341

a p0341 code mean cam reference performance, really it means you have a secondary ignition problem,,,,like a bad ignition module
a bad crank sensor
a high resistance spark plugs,do not use bosch platinum plugs in these cars
high resistance spark plug wires,,,i work at the dealer and the first thing we do is replace the spark plugs and wires if that dont work we replace the crank sensor,if thatdont work we reaplce the ignition mondule, and by then your fixed and you started with the cheapest items first,,,i would try plugs and wires and a crank sensor,,,,wires $50 plugs $14 crank sensor $37
