I HAVE AN ADJUSTABLE CLUTCH ON MY 91 MUSTANG AND WHEN I LET OUT THE CLUTCH THE CAR REVS HIGH AND TAKES A MINUTE TO GO DO YOU KNOW WHAT CAN BE CAUSING THIS?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

The clutch isn't mechanically capable of increasing the engine's RPM. It's just a symptom of an engine problem. Clarify for me: When you push and hold the clutch pedal all the way down, the engine runs normally but when you release it, it revs up?

Sounds to me like the clutch disc is shot. Make sure there is a little bit of play in the pedal at the top of travel. If you put your foot on the pedal and there isn't any play at the top then the clutch may not be engaging all the way (and you may have burned up the clutch from the slippage). Good Luck,...ZMANRACINGI HAVE AN ADJUSTABLE CLUTCH ON MY 91 MUSTANG AND - 663a3f6.jpg

You can try to adjust the clutch cable... But from what I recall it should have an automatic clutch adjuster... (could be mistakened) Honestly, when clutch slips it time to replace the worn clutch...

Smoke from bonnet high revs per minute and burned out smell inside - going into gear inside but car not going anywhere...clutch??

possibly but check out the hydraulics or clutch cable first
if it is a cable then it is possible that the cable is jammed and not fully engaging the clutch
if it is hydraulic it is possible that the compensating port in the clutch master cylinder is blocked and not allowing full clutch engagement

Is clutch adjustable? Engine revs, but barely moves

it's not if you have hydraulic system.
check to see if the clutch pedal is firm and has pressure
start your engine, depress the clutch pedal and put it in gear
if it goes in gear easily and the car won't move then you need clutch
