Sounds to me like the clutch disc is shot. Make sure there is a little bit of play in the pedal at the top of travel. If you put your foot on the pedal and there isn't any play at the top then the clutch may not be engaging all the way (and you may have burned up the clutch from the slippage). You can try to adjust the clutch cable... But from what I recall it should have an automatic clutch adjuster... (could be mistakened) Honestly, when clutch slips it time to replace the worn clutch...
