Starting issue with 2009 CRV

Happy thanksgiving all! A couple of months ago I made a post about my new 2009 Honda CRV. I had explained that a couple times when I had tried to start it I heard a grinding sound and the whole car vibrated, like it does when you try to turn the key when the car is already running. Ever since then it would not always start on the first try unluss I turned the key to the number 2 position and let the computer fire up for a couple seconds. Also sometimes the engine turnes really fast, and sometimes it turns really slow. Also I had been having to turn the key further in order for it to start. Also when I first started it every time it sounded like a high pitched wine was coming from under the car, the transmission I assume? Well yesterday I took the car for its 5,000 mile service and the first time I started the car after it fired up perfectly with no noise from under the car, and did not have to crank the key as far. It fired up perfectly for the rest of the day. The next day I start up the car, and I start to have the same problem all over again. Can anyone out there explain this, because I sure can't, and it is incredibly frustrating. I would appreciate any help!

This to me sounds like a starter problem the bendex is not engaging like it should This will cause the problems you described. Take to honda and tell the you want the starter checked. Being a 2009 I have to assume it's under warantee
Hope this helps

Possible vacuum leak on 09 crv

96 to 2002 Civic, Accord, CRV automatics: The shift solenoid pairs, usually 2 pairs - upper and lower, are very sensitive and get sticky with age. I don't know how many miles you have on your car, but its usually rewarding to take them off and clean them and test them with a good 12v battery. The plunger should move an 1/8th inch with a good snap. If one is stuck whack it face down on a clean piece of paper, blow it out with a compressor and try again. Solenoids can cause starting out in the wrong gear, missing gears, creep in neutral, drag, bad downshifting, shudder, etc... Lower front solenoids are under a metal cap with 3 10mm bolts. Passengers side. Down there at the rear passenger side of the trans is the speed sensor, make sure the connector is clean and wires not damaged. Most of the time it is stuck or weak solenoids that cause these shifting issues. Each solenoid works on a separate gear actuation pathway.

Starting issue with 2009 CRV

When you brought the crv in for service, did you tell them about this problem? If not, TELL THEM NOW!! Keep a log of when this happens (day, time, description of what happens). You need to keep track of this and let the dealer know about the problem now, before the warranty expires. The log of info when having trouble will help them diagnose the problem, and it is MUCH better to have a detailed list than to say, 'oh, it happens sometimes'. So bring the crv back to dealer for another appointment, explain the trouble, and keep on bringing it back until the problem is fixed. This could be a problem with the starter. When you turn the key to start, a gear in the starter advances on a shaft, meshing with the flywheel, and then it cranks the engine over to start the vehicle. It sounds from your description, that the gear is not always advancing on the shaft all the way to the flywheel every time (the gear will just spin quickly, as there would be no resistance because it is not turning the engine over) and the gear will spin quickly, sort of sounding like the engine is turning over fast, when actually it's just the gear spinning. The grinding sound could be the gear clashing (not meshing smoothly) with the flywheel. You definitely have a problem, so don't stop complaining to the dealer until it's fixed.

Honda CRV CD Changer Magazine in permanent eject

One of the advantages of buying a car new is the warranty and the service. Even if you are putting it in wrong it is part of the service to have them show you how to use it. There should be a section in the manual that will instruct you as well.

Read the manual and if you still can't get it to work, take it back and see what they find. The reason warranties are issued is because not everything works just because it is new.

Hope this helps

Honda CRV 2009 problem. Can turning the steering wheel lock to lock about 10-15 times while the vehicle is stationary in drive damage the vehicle. Because since i did it my car has been running kind of...

The rough running should not be related at all to your steering column lock. Neither would the starting as the steering lock is designed to prevent you from turning the key.

I would have your car serviced since it's well under warranty

Problems Starting my 2009 Honda CRV

Your post interested me, as I just purchased the same vehicle lasts month. The grinding noise while attempting to start the CRV sounds like like a problem with the starter 'clashing ' with the flywheel. When you turn the key to start there is , a small gear in the starter on a shaft that advances (moves down the shaft) and meshes with the flywheel (which is a large 'gear'). When they mesh together, the starter gear will spin, and turn the flywheel, which 'cranks' the engine over to start. When a car is old, you can experience a loud grinding noise, as the wear and tear can cause the gears to clash, not mesh smoothly. Since this is an '09, that of course isn't a wear and tear issue, something was not tightened during assembly, or is defective. You MUST bring it to the dealer, to establish that there is a problem, even if they deny it. To continue to drive it could cause damage to components (actually driving it is probably ok, it's the starting it that will cause damage). So, insist that they check it out, you may be surprised by their desire to fix it, and have a happy customer to advertise their cooperation and quick fix of the problem. Hondas are great cars, hopefully this is a rare minor assembly or defective part glitch that will be quickly fixed. Keep me posted as to your visit to the dealer. Remember that you can bring it to any Honda dealer, although I would start with the one where I purchased it. The car is under warranty, get them to fix it, and enjoy your new car.

2002 honda crv air filter change

Hi!

Can you specify if you are referring to the engine intake air filter or the cabin air filter?
If you are referencing the cabin air filter, the attached youtube video should help.

I originally created the video for the Odyssey, but found out after looking at my dad's CRV that it is essentially the same procedure as the Odyssey, and have also noticed that the same stands true for most Honda vehicles built between 2005 and 2009.

Happy motoring!
