I bought a Samurai from a police auction without any ownership papers so i'm depending on the 17 digit VIN for the year. The 10th. digit is an H which indicates it's a 1987. I'm quite sure it has a 1.3 liter-1300cc engine and it doesn't have an O2 sensor. It has a 5 speed trans. The problem is with the carb. Somebody took the factory air cleaner off and replaced it with a snorkel. When they made this swap they chopped some plumbing and some wiring but it worked really good according to some of the local off-roaders. It sat for 2 months and when i started it it wouldn't idle below 1800-2000 and it went through 2 gallons of gas in less than a half hour without turning a wheel. I cleaned up the outside with a spray can of linkage cleaner and ran a can of cleaner through the throat. That helped a little, i got the idle down to 1500 but still pretty rough and no change in gas consumption. The distributor timing is set at 6* before TDC. Got any ideas? Wayne

If it idles that fast, the throttle isnt seated all the way down, either the linkage is stuck or the choke mechanism isnt letting the throttle close all the way. On a 2 barrel carb, if the secondary throttle isnt closed all the way it could also do that. Try cleaning the secondary throttle bore and make sure it operates smoothly and closes completely.

Ignition key

Hi there .... If you call the dealer with the vin number of the vehicle, they should be able to cut you a key. the only problem you may encounter is that they won't cut you a key without proof of ownership. If you bought this isuzu from an isuzu dealer I suggest you call them as they will have your info on hand. if not I hope you have your insurance papers handy cause you might be able to use them as proof of ownership. Hope this helps you out
