It could be the fuel pressure regulator. If you hold the gas pedal to the floor will it start then? The fuel pressure regulator is on the fuel rail and should have a vacuum line going to it, if you pull that vacuum line off and there is gas there the regulator is bad. There's a diaphram in there that can rupture and the vacuum of the engine sucks gas into the intake manifold and floods the engine. The regulator is about $100 from Napa or O'Riley's auto parts. If you are going to change that yourself be sure to let the fuel pressure bleed off. Let the vehicle sit with the ignition off for a least a 1/2 hour.

SOURCE: 1996 ford f150 inline 6 4.9l starts great cold but

Check for a bad temperature sensor. If there is any code, read it with a scanner, and it will usually tell you what is going on.

SOURCE: Ford F150 engine whistles at cold start

it could be a pulley that is cold or lubricant on it is low. Or could be the air intake system. Nothing serous anyways.

Check for low coolant, you might also have a sticking thermostat. Alot of fords get air pockets, make sure if it needs coolant to let it run for about 10-15 min with the radiator cap off.
