Just changed the transmission fluid in my 03 Denali XL and now it does not want to move at normal speed into 1st gear. You put it in Drive and it does not even move at all, once you give it the gas it moves ever so slowly. Reverse is fine and shifts properly. Check engine light now went on too. Any ideas?

I have had vehicles where the speed sensor, MAF, MAP and throttle body did not let them shift as they should but the vehicle did shift. I have put several links above. Just to make sure if you have check engine light find out the code. Make sure you check transmission fluid with engine on and in park, emergency brake on at normal operating temperature. ( May sound bad but I have had to tell people above 30 about this and they said it was the first they heard of it). I will say the thing which stands out to me is check shifter cable. Check fuses. I did see a link which suggested brakes locked up but I assume the truck is not even trying to move.

My first question is - have you had the trans filled with fluid ? If the fluid level is now normal, and you can't shift the gears, you may have damaged the main shaft inside the trans.
when you had the transmission filter and gasket changed. do you know if they back flushed the fluild. there is 5 to 7 shift soleniods in the transmission. when garages back flush transmission it causes the solenoids to close. are there any codes. sounds like your 1st and 2nd shift solenoid is stuck closed
Your owners manual will give you the required maint for the 60k check up...normally an O/L/F, tire rotation with high speed wheel balance , change the air filters and cabin air filters , new wipers front and back, transmission flush/ reclaim and install fluid (you said you tow) , have the coolant checked as well and if four wheel drive have the transfer case fluid checked or replaced. Have the shocks checked as well and make sure there is sufficient treadwear on the tires...low tread will greatly reduce the ride/handleing of big sport utilities.
