Hello, if you're still having this problem it sounds like it is most likely your ignition "switch" itself. This is generally a $300.00 fix at your local Saab dealer however you can replace it yourself with a moderate level of mechanical knowledge. I'm assuming you have the encoded blocky non traditional looking "key" with a backup "traditional" key stored within. This key contains a code which is picked up by the CIM releasing the steering lock and allowing you to turn the key and start the vehicle. In Saabs infinate wisdom?? They found it appropriate to place this delicate electrical device within inches of a cup holder and high probability of being drenched in whatever your beverage at the time happens to be (usually coffee or soda). This can cause failure of the unit, requiring replacement. Are you able to hear the "click" (steering lock release) when you put the key in? Does your message center display any information? "Steering lock malfunction" "key not recognized"? I'm willing to bet that the problem is likely in this area. I do have a used (in good working condition and in nice shape) spare ignition switch and key if you determine that this is what you need. You may contact me at [email protected] or take your car to your local Saab dealer to be diagnosed.

Hello, I have almost same problem, I dont hear any click and I cant unlock the doors. and this appears random. The car starts always when its cold, drive for 10 - 1 hour and the car wont start, seems like the ignition switch doesent get any power also the door lock doesent unlock with the key. must unlock manually. door lock switch doesent work either. I wait for 10-15 minutes and it begins to work again. I have replaced the ignition switch, and tried to connect a extra battery with cables but it doesent work. only solution is to wait minutes or hours until it begins to work. plz help ReaperUSMC

the key may be worn badly or the ignition needs to be replaced.

you most likely have a bad key switch cylinder assembly. you can try to spray wd40 solvent into the switch before you have the switch replaced, but sometimes it's a switch replacement that repairs the problem. have you inspected your ignition key to look for damage to the key itself? try a spare key to make sure it's the key,and not the key switch. you can also try turning the key while turning the steering wheel at the same time to get the key to work.sometimes the switch locks when parked in a bind, such as on a hill,or against a curb and so on. try this 1st before you have the ignition switch replaced. AAA auto club,if you're a member covers part of the replacement costs for a replacement switch also. you may have coverage through a cell phone also.one more thing to try, if you have a tilt steering column, try to reposition the steering wheel to see if you can get the key to turn. remember never force it enough to break your key off into the switch! thank you for choosing fixya.com!

Try turning the steering wheel, fairly firmly, while trying the key. Sometimes a significant preload happens when the power assist is helping the wheel positioning, just prior to shutdown.
